I was reading through Pop Culture Zoo and in relation to Jenks comment -
I disagree.
From dictionary.com, science-fiction is defined as, "a literary genre that makes imaginative use of scientific knowledge or conjecture".
Mind you, soap-opera is defined as, "a radio or television series depicting the interconnected lives of many characters often in a sentimental, melodramatic way." - sounds familiar?
SGU does not make imaginative use of scientific knowledge or conjecture at all (it tries to avoid it whenever possible cos as TPTB keeps reminding us, they do not want SGU to be like SG-1/SGA - i.e. with the techno-babble or focus on the ship's technology). So therefore IMO, SGU is not "the best" nor is it "certainly the most true to the genre piece of science fiction on television today", since it's more soap-opera than science-fiction.
But fair play to him, he didn't try to troll bait, unlike Jess there. Overmind One made a good reply and I doubt Jess would have a comeback to that.
Jenks can suck a bag of door knobs, the pathetic, apologist, turd burgler. Nuff said about him.
You're so entirely spot on about the way SGU eschews sci-fi. It's criminal that they keep trying to pawn SGU off as a sci-fi show when it's clearly not. Like the episode where they find the seeder ship and they show Rush the room with all the stargates. He shrugs and basically says 'Big deal!' then they go right back to the bad drama. That scene specifically shows that TPTB don't have any interest in making a sci-fi show. In fact, that scene proves they only want to use the name "Stargate" for cache purposes, but have zero intention of making the stargate anything more than a name.
