Sanctuary General Discussion Thread

Just compare the fact that the only criticisms we can come up with on Sanctuary are some nits to pick on CGI and maybe Paul's character a little with the wholesale writing and characterization disaster of SGU.

Sanctuary will have its occasional rough spots - remember the budget it is done on a very low - but they mostly get it right. Meanwhile SGU has the big budget and delivers pretty much nothing.

I liked the premiere - I was very glad Will didn't dance again! Lol I totally thought of that dinosaur from Jurassic Park too - now I'm going to go and watch Jurassic Park, it's one of my all-time favorites :)

I had a few other criticisms of the episode, but they are easily excused for me because overall the show is fun and entertaining. I don't much care for the new intro music, either, but, oh well.

Having seen the premiere, I think that overall it worked pretty well. The couple of weak CGI moments were forgivable, it was well paced and the characters were well acted (and yes Kate was improved a lot). The Kali plot (which I was not all that excited about because I don't get into Indian mysticism) was satisfactorily resolved and things are well positioned for the balance of the season.

I'll be back to discuss it when you an others have seen it. It was good. There's this really funny part in there towards the end between Wexford (Paul M's character, and I don't know what he is either) and I think it's Edward (the guy that wanted to be able to control Big Bertha but didn't get to). I won't spoil it, but I thought it was funny.

Cheers.
Very VERY funny.

(we finally were able to sit down and watch it last night)

Seeeeeeee what happens when you don't take a few of your sleaziest sex fantasies and try to write a Scifi show around it? You get creative and produce intelligent and engaging television!!! Bravo! I'm VERY HAPPY that Sanctuary is back! A few thoughts:

Wasn't happy that the re-air was pushed back to 3 in the morning. I hope they don't do that again next week.

I'm glad that the Kali line was wrapped up for now, at least (you know it's going to be revisited since Magnus had no idea what happened).

I really wish Callum Blue's cheeky character didn't have to go away so soon. Setting aside his hotness, I think his scenes were just brilliant (yes the boat cheekiness amid the finale tension building up was priceless).

Why am I crushing everytime I see Magnus with a big gun? :smiley_squee:

Wexford got to be annoying. I wouldn't care less if he never showed up again. He was too "I want to control the Sanctuary! ME...ME...ME!!!!" Blech!

I still may not like Kate, but my feelings toward her nowhere near approach my disdain for that theme music. It was so moody and mysterious before and now it's like dance of the wood nymphs. WTF and FOR WHY?!

Will have to fire up the DVR and re-watch again before Friday's episode so that it will further sink in (the episode and not the theme music).

Yeah, I'm betting she will be back. And they introduced at least two more "mega-abnormals" - the dudes that were in the thrones w/ Kali in that spirit-place. I just hope they don't make it too cheesy with a mega-abnormal cultural tour, in which they follow up the Bollywood dance with other traditional dances in order to please each of the mega-abnormals :icon_e_confused:

:rotflmao: Great way to describe it. I intend to fast forward through the theme music from now on.

I wonder what Amanda's reaction was when she heard that Sanctuary nearly doubled over SGUs viewership? And that at less than half SGUs budget?

Maybe something like....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if she hated the people in charge (if it even that was how it played out after she left SGA), I doubt she would be like that. SG was her baby too. The only reason she would have to be glad would be the whole 'SGU haz real actors now lulz' that went on before the premiere of SGU. I'm glad Tapping, Kindler and Wood are sucessful. All is not lost.

The only problem with that is that while Stargate was her baby, SGU is more like what it would be like if the mother (SG), instead of giving birth to a healthy baby gave birth to a giant, slimy slug that just came out and flopped around, giving off a powerful stench.

Another strong installment of Sanctuary tonight.

Good acting all around, a real sense of mystery about the new abnormals who were trying to read or supress Will's memories and what looks like a crackerjack ongoing plot about a mystery hidden city. Kate was even again not annoying.

It also segued very nicely out of the Kali plot (and Will is having long term consequences from it) into their plot for the season. Oh, and Wexford got his in a really slick political coup.

Again the quality of this was so far about SGU (I had DVRed SGU but deleted it after about 15 minutes - God what dreck the stupid stones again) that it isn't funny.

Liked this episode, great as usual, and the way the Abnormals self-destructed.
However, this whole lost city thing in Antarctica just screams ATLANTIS to me.

The Twilight joke left me laughing, as Christopher Heyerdahl had a VERY small role as Marcus, the one character The Big Guy liked in the last movie.

Silly silly fuckers.

I don't think they ever said the mystery city was in Antarctica.

I second that roll on the floor. I really don't like the new theme music. I was hoping that they were just using it to highlight the Indian focus of the first episode, but I see that it's back again for the second episode as well. It's too bad. The original theme was really cool. It set a great tone for each episode.

I'm not crazy about the new music but it is not a big negative to me either. It is sort of like what Lilith Fair would be like if it were staged by abnormals.

We get good scripts with excellent acting and directing in Sancutary. So a them sone to me is not a big thing.

I don't think they ever said the mystery city was in Antarctica.

The season 3 trailers imply it is, there's a scene showing them in a snowy area. Of course, I may be wrong, it could be the Arctic for all we know, but still the idea of a lost city of vampires feels like Atlantis to me.

I just finished this episode and I really enjoyed it, season 3 is off to a great start so far. I'm not a huge fan of Kate but she is getting better, especially when she's not the centre of attention but part of the gang, the conversation about the bank accounts was funny. Love seeing Declan again too, I hope he sticks around, though he seems to have lost his entourage of commandos.

This show is doing believable conflict and angst soooo much better than SGU it isn't funny. Will's issues were realistic and the team showed a mix of support, concern and wariness about what was going on, like normal people do instead of just starting to bitch and whine when there's an issue.

Love that the Big Guy is a Nicholas Sparks reader and the tiny Twilight joke, but I hope Druitt pops up again soon.

Yeah I'm getting that vibe too. I hope it's the Himalyas or something, not Antarctica I knoe Sanctuary uses quite a few Stargate motifs but hunting for a Lost City there would be too deja vu.

I hope the ratings keep up, this show deserves it. We should find out today right?

I am screwed if I start watching this show.

Maybe I should elaborate.
I like the cast, I like the storyline and I like the vamps even though they have been done to death. (wink, wink)
When I first heard of this show I was attracted to it. Because of that attraction I ran like a screaming bat out of hell away from it. I don't like to watch shows that draw me in anymore. It is too painful when TPTB cancel things that I grow to respect and like. Ever since the shake-up at skiffy I have waited for things to settle down so they could get back to making quality television. Unfortunately with the fortune teller show and wrestling I am hesitant to commit to skiffy while they appear to be in as much disarray as the sgu lover fanbase. I cite dresden files, SG-1 and atlantis as my supporting evidence.
I WILL BE BUYING THE DVDs however. I have written and spoken out against the skiffy channel till I am blue in the face.

I know the show is worth it but skiffy no longer cares about Sci or Fi. So even though the ratings for sanctuary are high it doesn't mean it is safe from the proverbial axe. Atlantis had great numbers and look at what happened there. I wish all the best of luck to the show and hope that it continues to do well; but the executive producers need to know the skiffy has thier back, and we know that won't happen.
