Random Banter

They do though. They control the SP and you know how much money has control over our lives. We can't live without it and society has become dependent on it.

Politicians are owned by corporations (and banks are huge corporations). This is true in basically every country including Australia. Do you really think that when politicians leave office they return to being citizen farmers? Of course not. They slide into a cushy job as an "adviser" and get seated on a board for at least one, if not multiple, corporations. This is their reward for helping out corporations during their tenure in office. They also work as lobbyists despite there being some attenuated and pathetic anti-lobbying laws on the books. Hell, no one leaves Congress without becoming a millionaire. Even socialist Bernie Sanders is a millionaire. I'm sure you've got the same thing going on down under.

Welcome to life in the 21st Century. :moody:

Can someone tell me what's in the content of this article? It won't let me see unless I disable adblock for them but I have no adblock installed, I guess it's just part of the Opera browser by default.

A new 12 kilometer LIQUID water lake has been discovered under the Mars polar cap. It is almost 12 miles square, and is unknown how deep it is. But the huge news is that it is liquid and not ice.

Cheers! That's a very interesting discovery. It could do wonders for colonization attempts.

I am one of those adults with "skeeter syndrome". It means when I get bit, I get GIANT mounds of swelling around the bite. It gets hard and hot and very itchy. So, when I hear that telltale high pitched buzzing, I go into a panic and hunt the thing down until I kill it. I have recently discovered that Benadryl prevents the giant whelps I get, and stops the itching.

Note: mosquitoes are weak fliers, so a fan set on high and blowing over you will prevent them from lighting on your skin.

No idea why but mosquito's mostly ignore me . Not sweet enough I guess
;)

That is not the reason they bite. They initially smell the CO2 coming from people and animals, and once they come close enough they change to heat sensing. They know nothing about sugar content in your blood before biting, and in my case there are no refined sugars in my body. They cannot process ketones, and I am in ketosis. People with skeeter syndrome are usually children, but a significant percentage of adults have it.

It was a metaphor that I was not sweet enough or was it that my wife says I am not sweet enough . I can't remember . Still it is weird that others around me are getting bitten left and right and I only receive a bite or 2 . Now blackflies on the other hand , there friggin nasty as they always go right into your eyes . And of course the dreaded Horse Fly and Deer Flies are my Nemesis ! . I still have scars from those suckers from being in the woods at my Grandma's cabin ,,,

Lol. I just played "What's your inner animal" on my Google Home mini device. Apparently I'm a kangaroo. :)

I don't suppose there is a way to implement a "go to last post" feature at the top (and bottom) of each forum thread page? (like within the red box)

lastPost.png

I've Googled it and got to some Xenforo pages where people were asking the same or similar questions but there was either no answer or a negative one. I don't know how old those posts were though so perhaps things would have changed.

On the main forum page in the section for "New posts" I find that when clicking on one of them it takes me straight to the first unread post in that thread. That feels like a very similar functionality to me but actually more complicated as that one is tied to a specific user as "first unread" is not the same for everyone and also changes all the time. That's why I would find it hard to believe that it is not possible to have a link that simply takes you straight to the last page in a thread and subsequently to the highest numbered post in that thread.

Even the "go to first unread post" feature would be handy to have in that red box, although I think the other option should be simpler and I would probably prefer that.

The simplest way to get the first post to be the latest is to change the sort order.

Yeah but that's not what I mean though. I like to have the posts in chronological order from first to last. If you simply reverse the chronological order, the quick reply box would still be at the bottom of the page rather than at the top, wouldn't it?

Yeah...I am not understanding what you want. More detail?
