I tried getting a clip out of the video:

xwing.jpg

Look closely. The wing split is clearly visible starting right in by the hull and running right through the center of the intake which is shown to be two D shapes butted together. You can also see top and bottom rear exhausts which proves 4 engines.

Yes, now I can see it. :) Interesting that the original Xwing had the split down the center of each engine horizontally too. But even if this is so, the design makes no sense. Why even split the wing at all? Put an engine on each wing, then yes. Say it's for atmospheric fighting, then no. D-shaped intakes make no sense aerodynamically, and neither does a split wing. This goes back to what I said earlier...the original design was fine just as it was. The split with half an engine on each wing looks ungainly and stupid to me.

It has an engine on each wing. This is why many looked back to the original concept art as it did the same thing with the engines. And a D shaped intake is no real issue aerodynamically (the intakes on the B-2 are very nearly D shaped) plus I imagine that just like the old X Wing this one has the wings closed in atmosphere.

In the other pictures Im seeing, there is also a line down the axis of this fighter lengthwise. Also, you can clearly see the "turbine" inside the cowl and it is round, and centered in the intake. I suppose we will have to actually see this thing in that mode to know for sure.

Still, this thing is a major departure from the Xwing, and for it to be 30 years into the future and look as ancient as it does is lame. I have a 24 year old car that still looks brand new like it came off the showroom floor.

It's not that major. And so far everyone is loving that it looks beat up and weathered. One of the things everyone hated about the prequels was how nothing looked used or beat up like it did in the OT.

This is what has me excited. The prequels really turned me off because they were so CGI laden and every backdrop and/or device looked clean and gleaming. They even managed to take the grittiness out of Tatooine somehow.

I just want them to get back to the style of the OT.

I agree with the assessment of the fans about the prequels. :) But now, we have newer ships which look older than the ones in the original trilogy. Also, it could be argued in the prequels that the ships were new, including the battle cruisers which had rebel paint on them. With this new xwing, we have a new design, therefore a new ship and there should not be such weathering. It is a form of shout out to the fans like tribbles are in NuTrek.

Lets just say that after the utter ruination of Trek, I do not have much confidence in JJ Abrams not to mess things up. I do not think he will care if he messes things up, as long as he likes it. Yes, the writers and Disney are major movers in this, but Abrams is in the driver's seat overall. I dare say that Orlando Orci may make the best NuTrek movie because Abrams will not be part of it.

I agree with the CGI. They even went back to the original trilogy and added CGI. What I fear here is more than the Xwing redesign or new characters. Its the core of the thing that I think he will change. Unlike Trek, this is already a re-imagining of the classic medieval knights and villian's story, and the plot has been leaked:

SPOILERS: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-e...els-opening-and-premise-revealed-9618421.html

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for Abrams to suck the life out of the previous 6 movies to make the 7th, even if the writers give him a great script. Im just wary of this dude. I dont trust him.

That "leak" was debunked already. We actually have no idea what the premise and plot will be.

Wariness is one thing and warranted. But don't let it go over the top to where everything is interpreted in the worst possible light while ignoring all the good signs (like the lack of CGI, the overall look and bringing in the OT writers as opposed to Abrams crew or Lucas). And remember that the #1 culprit in both the horror of the prequels AND the messing up of the OT (the offensive Special Editions) is Lucas. And while the overdue of CGI was a factor in the prequels being turds the biggest issues were extremely bad scripts and terribly written characters.

Yeah, sorta like Kahn in STID was leaked, then "debunked". I believe the rumor.

More...seems like the only officially debunked rumor was that the Millenium Falcon was going to be in the movie. This new leak is not debunked. If you say yes, then please show me. :)

At the link a couple of messages above, we see the photo gallery of the characters in the film, including the actual actors who play C3OP, R2D2 and Chewbacca. Andy Serkis is in the movie, as well as the "core" OT crew. (Luke, Leah and Solo and Chewbacca). There are going to be Xwings, but what about stormtroopers (clones)? The Millenium Falcon will not be in this movie.

Between now and December 2015, there are going to be lots of rumors. But as we know from Star Trek, Abrams controls these leaks and "debunks" them only to verify them later.

This is different - only one source with zero corroboration. Khan had more than one source and there was some corroboration. It's also really early for opening credits to be filmed when they are still building sets and primary filming has not happened.

Um, no.

The original source is here:

Unlike the Millenium Falcon leak which was debunked by Abrams himself, these plot leaks have NOT been debunked as you say. If so, please show me. I found where JJ himself stated that the Millenium Falcon would not be in the movie. Nothing about these new plot leaks being false. They sound like JJ completely. Lets see if the studios or writers or JJ debunks them.

It's a single rumored leak, not "leaks". As happens all too often on the internet a bunch of sites all report off the exact same source and it makes it look like there are many sources when it is really one.

Abrams "debunking" was a note written in a very joking tone and displayed on - the game table from the Millennium Falcon. So it wasn't exactly a debunking.

Didn’t you say similar things about the Kahn leak which later turned out to be true after all?

Actually I think the Khan rumor died. We know this actor plays the villain but not who the villain is.

As to the film as a whole, I am confident they'll do it right. They got the Trek essence right in 09 and the main cast was perfect in their roles.

I can see the Millenium Falcon not being in the film. But this plot story thing sounds exactly like what Abrams would like. It has not been debunked by Abrams or by Disney....yet.

The Khan rumor came much later in production and had more than one source. I was wrong as it turned out.

This one is way early in production, from only one source and only a day old. My tendency is not to believe rumors I admit.
