Mallozzi's Mailbag & More II

It's very hard to see what happened behind closed doors. All I know is Syfy had themselves a very profitable show with plenty of life in it that could of gone several more seasons. With a focus direction and more money put into it, SGA could of been even greater and better.

Very True. Mistakes were made, let's just hope they learned from them.

I agree with your assessment of his assessment

I agree with that assesment.

Love the new avatar btw. :beckettu: I'm still chuckling from those WWE videos you posted yesterday.

It would be great if they did but the problem is that a lot of people simply can't admit when they've failed. It would be so much healthier for the future of Stargate if BW/RC could offer up a genuine mea culpa to the fans. I'm sure many of us would accept the apology and then simply want to move forward.

There's a huge viewership for Stargate that includes hard core fans and casual fans. An apology and a promise to do better in the future from TPTB (should they get the chance at producing Stargate again) would certainly do much to get all types of fans to return to the fold. Unfortunately we're talking about bruised egos that belong to executives who arrogantly believed they couldn't fail. Until those people do some introspection, and fix their personality disorders, we won't be getting any apologies in the near future.

So true. An apology could go a LONG way for the fans. At least this fan.

I think that Brad publicly apologizing to the fans for his vile comments towards us could really go a long way. It wont make me buy an SGU DVD set, but it will make his tail go away. :) Mallozzi deftly escaped the wrath of the fans by dumping the "mystery game" in Brad's lap. I have posted INCONTROVERTIBLE PROOF that the SGU sets are going to be struck starting in March, and it cant be denied. But still, Brad will not make the announcement officially. Is he saving face? Or is he just too proud to admit defeat?

Love means never having to say you're sorry - and some people love themselves a lot!

I think it's the latter. If the Stargate concept is taken out of his hands he'll never have a reason to admit how badly he botched the last show. His ego would prevent any sort of admission that his final project with the Stargate concept was a failure.

If for some reason he's allowed to retain control of the concept in some form he might, eventually, admit that SGU was flawed, but that's probably as far as it will go. It will probably be couched in terms like "the fans weren't ready for SGU" or something that casts blame elsewhere. In short, it will be a back-handed apology.

I doubt though that he will ever apologize publicly for lashing out at the fans who didn't fall into lockstep with his confused, derivative, pathetic vision that was SGU.

We won't get an apology. When I said I hope they learn from their mistakes, I was not only thinking of TPTW, but also the folks at MGM and people in charge of green lighting shows in general. It seems obvious to me that right now SyFy's best and most popular scripted shows are episodic: Eueka, WH13, and even Sanctuary. SGA was doing fine in the ratings with tons of untaped potential left, so why did they have to mess with a good thing? Sci-drama is really hard to do - see Caprica, SGU (though it was more sci-soap) and now Being Human. Babylon 5 was the only one that pulled it off and they had lots of stand alone episodes as well. So it seems to me there must be balance. You can have drama and you have character development, but it has to be done over time. Give the audiance a chance to get to know and like your characters and then begin to make them more complex people over time. Again a B5 example: Franklin's addiction to stims was a big sub-plot, but it didn't come to a head until season 3 or 4. If it happened first episode, why would I care? But given a couple seasons to get to know and like the guy makes all the difference.

Maybe he'll say, "We wanted to it right this time..."

I believe there will come a time when BW will have to apologize publicly for lashing out at scifi fans, well if he ever wants to be a showrunner in the future. As a network ex, would you be willing to hire a man with such an ego to handle your new project? just sayin

I suppose I have to ask, chuckle as in being amused, or chuckle as in "OMFG, whats this junk?"

Actually, I'd think you might get one out of Joe M before getting one out of Brad W. I did say this before and got sorta "poo-poo'ed" about it, but I do think it is the more likely outcome. At the end of things (i.e., lately) JM seems to be prevaricating between loyalty to BW and the "Stargate Franchise" as a concept, and his own personal feelings on the matter. I could be way off base of course, but thats truly my "gut feeling"

Why, that would be a DIRECT violation of our CCPG! :rotflmao:

I'm still trying to get a handle on what the new rules are. If the 'apeman thinks it is err, "garbage", I promise not to get offended. Different strokes for different folks AFAIAC.

RCC may come out unscaved, but how BW and JM handled themselves publicly and online can haunt them for years to come. Laurels of the past can be wiped out with acts lesser than this in the entertainment business.

They may NEVER live it down. But at least Mozz has a chance to gather a whole new set of fans with Transporter. As much of a spineless reptile that he is, he is a very good writer. He is creative and he LIKES to write. He is good at what he does. But as a person (even though I have never met him), he seems like a stuck up prick. He could turn that around. But Brad? Right now, he should be releasing the news that the SGU sets are going to be struck starting next month, but he is holding out on the fans. Mozz is not part of Stargate anymore, so the responsibility no longer falls on him AND he has a proper excuse. I think he should have admitted that the Atlantis sets had been destroyed more than a year ago, but at least he didnt lie. He simply never addressed it.

Brad has no excuse at all.

ITA with you on Brad. He must be hanging onto some thread of hope he can shop his baby to another network, delaying the news of the tear down of the sets next month will keep the handful of sgu fans faithful :smiley_squee:

Time will tell on Mozz, the Sword of Damocles will hang over all their heads, we'll see if the sword falls when in a con JM is asked a question about SGU. Will he answer truthfully or give answers like he is doing now? Time will tell.

Well KEK has just reported about the sets being torn down, so even "the faithful" know it now from a "independant and reliable source"...........

"Chuckle" as in amused. John Cena can be funny. He's actually rather intelligent when you see him in interviews and it's obvious that his wrestling persona is just that, a character he plays when he gets "on stage". His movies are pretty awful though. I haven't been able to watch more than five minutes of either one of them to be honest. Same with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He seems like an intelligent, personable guy but his acting choices are horrendous. When I was a kid I loved the movie "Escape to Witch Mountain" and even still like it today even though it's a kids movie and is horribly dated (that adds to the kitsch feel of it) but "Race to Witch Mountain" with The Rock was truly horrible -- and this is coming from someone who allowed for the fact that it's a kids movie.

Of all the "wrestling movies" I've seen (i.e. ones that "star" the wrestler) the only ones I really like are "Welcome to the Jungle, The Condemned, and Walking Tall" (and walking tall is just plain cool because it is based on a true story). All the rest are "umm, meh" at best.

Didn't you like "The Wrestler" with Mickey Roarke?
