I hope Brad kept some evidence to back up his claims - I really do. It's not hard to believe that Syfy wanted a Battlestar replacement rushed out there to pair with Caprica. It certainly would seem that was the direction that network was going in. Plus in their eyes - shiny new show = ratings money.
Plus with MGM its not hard to sympathize that it was a crappy situation to be in, they were a complete mess.

Seriously just a few emails to back up his claims would be nice - mainly for him. IMO he's done a great job with Stargate over the years and for him to be blamed for its demise is a shame.

Correction...it wasnt Syfy who wanted a different show, it was MGM. Syfy wanted another season of Atlantis (according to Briangate78 who works for them). Brad does not say Syfy wanted a different show, he says the studio wanted a different show.

Im loathe to get to riled up as we need some footage and other attendees to confirm Naked's comments - no offence intended, but i always like to have either vids/outside source like an interview or at least other attendees confirming the same thing. I find it way strange that no one else from the con has posted about brad's panel, hes like an important part of the franchise?

Please continue to post the bits you have. all i was trying to get accross, is that its better to have more than one source should anyone want to take the info you have provided over to say, GW or syfy forum. its easy to debunk one poster than it is 2 or 3 attendees.

Stclare, you are completely right and I support this. If no confirming evidence comes up soon I'll retract my statements and the others.
It's not that we mistrust the person posting them, but we've been burnt before. So unless an official transcript, or video shows up it's just hearsay. We don't want to accuse anyone here without being 100% sure.

Update: I have temporarily removed the reactions to NakedWesley's account of Brad's Statements for now. I left the originals there because I have seen no confirmation one way or another. This is just a measure to protect ourselves until things get sorted out. Please anyone, if you have a link to another source, do post it here - and the comments will be restored unchanged. I can confirm everything nakedwesley says, considering I'm the one who dared to question the almighty Brad Wright and got booed for telling him to keep on with his denial. Apparently it's okay for TPTB to talk crap about SGA fans for years but the minute anyone dares question THEM, the buttkissers who "love you Brad!" can't handle it. He actually had the nerve to coopt my feelings of betrayal to claim he was offended, lmao. Seriously, the guy just doesn't get it. WELCOME to GateFans! Im so glad you had the courage to speak up at the Con. Brad is a lying rat. He wont take responsibility for ANYTHING, and he is where the buck stops. Im glad to see him go, and I dont want him to ever come anywhere near Stargate again. I loved the shows he created, but he didnt even do that alone. So, if he ever shows his face at a Los Angeles Con, I will capture his words on audio/video as I can. I hope you will stick around here!




EDIT: I just wanted to add, that until we can get confirmation of this event (which would no doubt be noted by other fans who were at that Con), we arent going to encourage anyone in commenting on the ALLEGED events. If you can dig up video or show this corroborated by another media source, then please post the proof on this thread, and we can continue commentary on it! So, there’s only one other thing that I want to get off my chest. Now that I’m here, and now that I no longer have a show on SyFy, I just want you guys to know, because I still get letters, I did not cancel Atlantis. (laughter and clapping from stupid audience. Grinding of teeth and eyerolling from the rest of us) I would not cancel (more clapping) I was making a lot of money off that show. (Brad’s got his priorities, after all!) and it was something Robert and I were very proud of, and we would have loved it to go on for years. (Excuse me, while I gag on all the lies.) But, when a network cancels one of your shows, (So, now it’s back to being SyFy’s fault!) and wants to do something else with you, it’s very difficult not to do what they say. What they asked me to do, and what MGM asked me to do, was to say was, it was all of our idea. We all decided to cancel the show. So, some of my statements were couched in that context. And what I really wanted to say was, No! They cancelled my show! Anyway, off my chest.

He's very clear in saying that it was Syfy who wanted Universe over Atlantis. Which, imho, makes the most sense in the situation. I always thought it was highly unlikely Brad got to make the call about a show ending, espcially when they never got that chance in the past (i.e SG1 in S8 to make Command, despite the success he had brought).

WHICH version will you beleive, what he is saying now (in front of a group of possible sga fans who may want to lynch him?) or what he has told several interviewers in the past.....the man has more tales than the Arabian Nights....a new story for every audience it seems! I honestly feel he told the truth in the past....now he is trying to make nice with the fans (especially cause he's going to want to get PAID to attend more Cons in the future---it's money you know!) but for this fan it's wwwwaaaaayyyy too late, his bridges have been burned!

Found another description of Brad's talk at the con:

Sunday was Brad Wright, at 9:30 in the frakking morning. I was not impressed. He said that all of Stargate was dead right now and there would be no SGU movie. He said that MGM will be restructured and come back, and he believes there will be Stargate in the future, but he doesn’t know how many years it will be. He stated baldly, “I did not cancel Atlantis!” He said that he would not have cancelled something that made him money. He claimed that it was MGM’s decision and that he was just writing SGU as a movie. No one called him on anything until almost the end. A questioner stood up and said something about his rude and disrespectful treatment of the fans. You could tell he did not like that. He claimed he never said rude things and then back-tracked and said that on Mallozzi’s blog, people asked him rude and insulting questions and he responded in kind. The questioner said that it was very unprofessional of him. Wright looked like he was trying to swallow various things that he wanted to say. He asked the questioner for specific instances of his rudeness. When she couldn’t give any, he said the negativity was “all in her head”. In the end, he said something like I was never rude, but if I made anybody feel bad, I apologize. Damn, I was wishing I had screen caps of some of the things he said about not needing Atlantis fans.
