Doesn't episodic imply that episodes are self contained and can be played in any order vs serialized where episodes need to be played in a particular order?

Yes, it does which is why OMNI reamed me. :) This show is SERIALIZED. You have to watch each episode in order without missing any of them to get the story. And you WANT to.

I watched Continuum not for the problems they tried to hide from, but for the promise that I could see in the character development, as well as the writing.

The ride is definitely bumpy and most likely worth at least an hour of your time. So enjoy it while you have access to the show. Brian Markinson looks to be playing a "white shirt". Maybe not a Chief Constable, but most definitely at least a lieutenant.

Hopefully this is the first of several seasons.:snowman:

Missing SOA. I was so anxious about seeing one episode a week because I didn't want it to drag and now it feels like I watched it all in one shot. The seasons are too damned short. :(

You ever see any of these shows being filmed? (Yes I am assuming you live there) Ever run into any of this vast pool of character actors? Like in a store or something? (Hey all you Canadians know each other right?)

Nope I don't get around much.

Weird, why would I use an American term.

Chief Constable/ Chief of Police ..Deputy Chief / Deputy Chief Constable .. Superintendent ..and Inspector... with Sergeant Major .. Staff Sergeant .. Sergeant / Detective with Police Constables being rated at 1st through 4th Class

And of course Dillon is actually mentioned as being an Inspector, one who actually over-sees a District. As an add-in Vancouver is divided into 4 Districts.

Is the acting crowd in Vancouver as pretentious as the one in Hollywood? I am guessing no..

So I was looking for the ratings for the series premiere on Syfy last week, however it would appear that the show didn't even managed to break the top 100 cable shows. :( But thankfully Syfy doesn't have role in its production, so it's still safe since it preformed well on its Canadian network. Fingers crossed for season 2...

I suspect that Canadian actors are worse than normal. Mind you I have never met any. Acting is probably all ego where you have to spend all that time trying to project your personality, or the things you are trying to do.

The ratings definitely don't look good on Syfy with them being only about 2 and a half times better than the Canadian ones. I guess the people who watch Sci-Fi don't watch realistic police procedurals and vice-versa. Maybe the European crowd are picking up the slack. I guess season 2 goes into production this week, hoping Shaw( a MAJOR CABLE OPERATOR) has lots of money to spare as well as patience to see this show through.

Others and their take on the ratings/syfy:
For those interested, this thread is to track and discuss the seasons ratings (US only).

Episode 1 "A stitch in Time".

According to TV-By-The-Numbers, this episode failed to make the top 100 cable shows when it aired. That means it was viewed by less than 790k people L+SD.

Since I posted this in another thread, I am not going to entirely repeat myself.

One thing I will repeat is that if Sy-Fy wants to "blame" anyone for this "poor" rating, then they have no alternative but to blame themselves and not their viewers.

Sy-Fy, IMHO, has alienated the once extremely loyal core viewership with with their recent offerings. As I see it, they will absolutely need shows like Continuum and other, high-quality truly Sci-Fi offerings for Sy-Fy to recover that once extremely strong viewership,

As I see it, Sy-Fy got in on the last couple of minutes of the "reality series" 15-minutes of fame, and it sounds like a big gamble that they have lost.

Hopefully, the suits at the top of the Sy-Fy ladder have come to their senses and understand that people want truly great Sci-Fi from the channel, and that most of their current offerings are not cutting it. Otherwise, this show will suffer and perhaps not last long on Sy-Fy due to Sy-Fy playing the ratings game with it.

As I see it, Continuum may end up being the best truly Sci-Fi series to come to this channel in a very long time, and I hope that Sci-Fi continues to air it in the US.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And this from a resident syfy "cheerleader'. like how she says continuum is a "cheap foreign show" like when syfy makes an american show it is somehow better just because it cost more?

What makes you think they are looking to assign "blame" at all?

Continuum is a new series for Syfy, but as a foreign pick-up it is not too expensive, and because it's in the earliest prime-time slot it airs without a lead-in. As such, even these low ratings may be good enough to find advertisers who will offset the acquisition costs. And if not, they will pass on the second season and try something else instead. Network executives are rarely as emotionally invested in a show's success or failure as we the audience!

So you see, if we are to take a syfy moderators "hint" is she suggesting that the execs are already considering dumping the show? If so, hopefully for Canadians syfy doesn't own any part of the show's production

just watched ep 2.

ok I get it, the bad guys are real bad assed..they can stop with the body count and violence for violence sake (more of fishing for that young demographic who may be watching while awaiting being human and lost girl?) I know, they can and will kill

So, kiera (the protector chic) is given an identity by the geek as some type of federal agent (canadian or american?) Ok..what kind of federal agent works solo with no backup and bums around a local police station for tips? So, she is now going to be a Vancouver cop? It just doesn't make much sense.

And why does her "clothes" have apps for opening/operating machinery/equipment that does not exist in her time? Where is the power source (maybe we don't want to know)?

I hope it gets better-I had a difficult time staying awake for this one.

I am in the middle of watching sg1 now and don't see how this is like sg anything (except sgu with the "Sad montage" with sappy singer at the end of the show as they did in many eps of sgu) as someone said a while back.

Syfylys hasn't really been promoting Continuum that much. It seems like they added this show to their lineup for the sake of having some sci-fi and because it's cheap. Otherwise, the only commercials I can recall on Syfylys are the incessant and insistent commercials promoting their ghost shit and that stupid games show where contestants are fondling each other in the dark starring Steve Urkel.

If I hadn't been channel surfing tonight, I wouldn't have known that Continuum was on or that they're playing a new episode today.

I liked the time that they had a very effeminate man identify a fat dude's ass during a contest. He took one sniff and exclaimed, "that smells like ass." Ding, he got a point.
