Continuum in Production for Season Two

Reunion Pictures, in association with Shaw Media, announced today that production has started on Season 2 of Continuum, the original one hour drama-action series about a policewoman from 2077 who travels back in time and teams with a present day cop to track down escaped convicts from her future.

Continuum Season 2 is slated to premiere in Canada on Showcase in April 2013.

Continuum debuted on Showcase to an audience of over 1 million viewers (2+), shattering all previous premiere records on the network, making it the #1 specialty series of the summer. Last summer, Continuum averaged #1 on Sundays, dominating its timeslot across all key demos. The epic first season concluded with the most-watched finale in Showcase history.

In Season 1 of Continuum, Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols; Criminal Minds, Alias), a cop from the year 2077 found herself trapped in present day Vancouver, searching for convicted terrorists from the future, known as Liber8. With unexpected assistance from teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen; Jericho, Scream 4), Kiera desperately tried to bring down the terrorists before they changed the course of history forever. In Season 2 Kiera continues her uneasy alliance with her partner, Vancouver Police detective Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster; Castle, Melrose Place) and grapples with the big question that closed the first season – why was I sent here? While Alec struggles to understand the implications of the mysterious message he received from his future self in last season’s finale, the Liber8 terrorists become more strategic, although just as lethal.

“Season 2 of Continuum will see Kiera pitted against Liber8 while trying to find a way back to 2077,” says creator/executive producer Simon Barry, “This season will feature the best elements of Season 1 in addition to some new characters and storylines that expand the universe of Continuum.”

“We're absolutely thrilled about the great viewer response for the first season and know that fans are eagerly awaiting the second season,” says Reunion Pictures Tom Rowe. “Simon Barry’s vision, top notch writing and a terrific cast are captivating the North American and international audiences.”

Rounding out the cast is Stephen Lobo (Smallville, Little Mosque On The Prairie), Roger Cross (The Gates, Fringe), Lexa Doig (V, Stargate SG-I), Omari Newton (Blue Mountain State, Sophie) and Luvia Petersen (The L Word).

Continuum is created by Executive Producer Simon Barry (The Art of War) while DGC award winner Patrick Williams (Shattered, DeGrassi:The Next Generation) is Executive Producer and Director. Reunion Pictures partners Tom Rowe, Lisa Richardson and Matthew O’Connnor are Executive Producers.

Filmed on location in Vancouver, BC, Continuum is developed and produced by Reunion Pictures

I put the text in spoiler tags out respect for those who are watching the show on Syfy since it contained some minor spoilers for the season finale. Also, Rachel Nichols looks great as always. Just needed to be said. ;)

So last episode. All I am seeing is a police procedural with a few whizz bang gadgets and some high tech talk sprinkled throughout.

It is way more "Benson and Stabler" then "Carter, O'Neill, Daniel and Teal'q"

Not really liking the extreme anti military language they are using also "these members of Liber8 were ex military..spec ops, a doctor, commo, etc"

Why has it got to be ex military that have gone wonky? Why not ex bankers, or stockbrokers?

And why does the world of the future need a military when it is supposedly controlled by corporations?

Well that's one of the fears about "capitalism", that corporations will get so big they will become governmental agencies in a way. It's really not a leap to picture a corporate military structure. Of course I'm not in favor of such a thing for obvious reasons, but it does make for an interesting discussion and an interesting story premise.

Because in the future, the military is bought by the corporate government to protect it. The foundations of the future economy is almost totalitarianism. The rebels Liber8 are trained by the corporate government and therefore are the only ones properly trained to attack it.

This goes back to President Eisenhower warning us about the growth of the military/industrial complex. In many ways it is a real concern. I'd like to think we wouldn't allow the government to be run by a corporation, but if you think about it there are so many corporate ties already that that it's not that big of a stretch to get to the premise of Continuum.

Its one of the things I love about Continuum. From my perspective, the future corporate government they show is a MISTAKE and should be destroyed in favor of something more democratic. Kiera is a principled woman, and I predict that near the end of this show (or even before), she may decide that the future she came from is not the one that should come to pass. Liber8 is not trying to destroy the population, they are trying to destroy the timeline which creates the future corporate government.

so what was it? 10,000 dead in their attacks, do they not matter?

if Kiera does choose to change the future, then it would be hard to believe her future self would be the same

but still my main point is; show has no sci-fi, another cop show with some fancy talk, a spoiled, super nerd with a comp program that seems to have endless app's and cop body suit which doesn't seem to need a power source.

should be on USA in between reruns of SVU and Psych

Its obviously not going to entertain everyone. :) I find it refreshing. Yes, it is basically a spin on the cop show genre, with a bit of Warehouse 13 thrown in. But still, it has not been done before and that is why I like it. :)

A properly done cop show with a touch of Sci-Fi thrown in can be entertaining. Continuum is a mix if time travel and cop show. Gerry Anderson's Space Precinct was a buddy cop show literally set in a sort of Star Wars-ish future. Alien Nation had a cop-alien partnership in our present. Tek War (TV series) was a police procedural set about 100 years in the future. Even the short lived Mann and Machine had a sci-fi element - cop with android partner. All were entertaining.

Ex military make for a more action oriented show, and it's far more believable for a "terrorist style" organization to have trained personel. Even if you look at something like SW, most of the Rebels who fight are Ex-Imp millitary.

Read some William Gibson (or any other cyberpunk themed writer) bro :P You have corps providing not only weapons R&D but the trained forces to use them. They may call em "private security", but they are more like well armed and cutting edge equiped merc forces.

I get where you're coming from about the details of the show but you're missing the fact that the entire premise of the show is scifi based to begin with. Scifi by its definition is the fictional study of effects of speculative/futuristic technology on humans. Time travel clearly falls into that category. And the premise of this show is based on the effects of time travel. It's fascinating really, at least I think so.

As for the "super nerd", yes, he's annoying and his abilities are highly exaggerated. That part of the show bugs me a bit, but I can live with it. It is interesting to contemplate his role in regards to Kiera going back in time. It implies a time loop as in the first episode the super nerd (now old man) clearly wanted her to go back in time. It also implies the question of how much effect does the tech that Kiera brought back with her help "super nerd" to advance in the field of technology, etc.

Another thing that bugs me to no end is the way that Kiera is always foiled by the bad guys. It's like they're super human with highly advanced abilities, yet I don't recall that part being explained. They really need to let her kill off more of these A-holes for it to be realistic. Some badly choreographed karate moves to disarm her yet again really gets tedious.

And I really can't stand the tired premise of having a partner who is not privy to the truth of the situation. He conveniently gets knocked out right before Kiera (or whoever) pulls a super fantastic futuristic move with super fantastic future technology, thereby keeping the lovable idiot partner in the dark. Yawn...

Overall though the show is okay so far. I like the premise and hope they don't always make Kiera the underdog until the season finale. Shampoo, rinse, repeat. Yawn.

though i obviously do not know as some on here do, I am guessing that not too many liber8's are going to get killed off-at least by Kiera- because she is going to see the "light" of the corruption of her masters and join up with their cause-to change the future--in some way or form

i guess to put it more to the point, the premise and formula-with or without cop procedural-is just getting tiring

like you say, the bad guys getting away and the other cop not knowing the truth can get old quick

Yes, I think some of us mentioned in other places that Continuum may not be everyone's cup of tea. I am looking for potential on this show.

As Simon Barry doesn't appear to have a big writing resume behind him we don't know if he can come up with the goods that is needed to see that this show becomes more mainstream and thus has a far greater opportunity to Continue-m on.

I was going through some of the video from last year. This might be of interest to yongjin 2 :

yes, that was like ep 1 scen 1 right? i would like to know how her super suit is powered, and wouldn't it need to be "synced" with her command base every so often? stuff like downloads of arrests, uploads on new info/software, stuff like that? How is it working without this?

She described the suit to a minor extent to "super nerd" on the last episode because it's been damaged and needs to be repaired. I can't remember exactly how she said it but it can't simply be rewired. I think it's organic or something. Anyway, he said something about it sounding like the tech that his dad was working on, so it looks like they're setting up a way to repair the suit while also giving this kid another jolt of future tech knowledge.

Remember, in the future he's a tech big wig like a futuristic Bill Gates. They're alluding to him getting this technology know-how from Kiera, which pretty much implies a time loop going on. Like I said, the old super nerd in the future knew that Kiera had to go back so that means she's done it at least once before. Her eye implant thing and super gun and super suit are all tech that he learns from early on and then develops and becomes Mr. Big Shot.

I'm sure they'll explain more as the show goes on.

Is it confirmed that elder Alec sent the A-Team, also known as Liber8 back into the past? Some of us thought the way the Cigarette Smoking Man was smiling that that was a given.

Anyways, one thing they really don't go into is that it is not Alec's technology, but his dad's, at least that is how I remember it from almost a year ago. I guess his widowed mother, Ann Sadler( played by Janet Kidder) must of married someone who Alec doesn't politically agree with so we find him hiding out in the barn. Julian comes across as being a step-brother who is to much under his father's wing.

I think yongjin 2 brought up someone he saw that looked like they could be a possible person who was also dragged into the past. Not a man, but a woman. which brings up the idea that she could end up being the mirror image of Kiera in that she takes advantage of all the things she can remember.

Looking at the first picture it sure looks like the magnetic field rises to the ceiling and maybe onto the next floor. Like they say possibilities are endless when you consider sci-fi.

Forgot as usual that Roland Randol, Julian's father, is played by Michael Rogers.
