It has a name: Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Not a bad idea...but I imagine you can see it for cheap at a matinee.

Seems I'm not the only one who believes Abrams has gone Michael Bay on the new Trek:

Last paragraph from that article:

It’s a fun ride, certainly, but the general setup has barely been developed, and it doesn’t deliver an ending that’s worthy of the anticipation or Abrams’ high standards.

High standards? :anim_59:

Why does the phrase "high standards" appear in the same sentence as "Abrams"? :icon_lol:

Think someone said this movie was his audition movie for star wars. I can't recall him doing any movies that are memorable anyways, not in the long run.

This movie could have easily been a Star Wars movie spinoff. :anim_59: I could EASILY see Abram's Enterprise landing at Coruscant, or see Han Solo landing his Millenium Falcon in the shuttle bay. Throw a black helmet on Cumberbach in this last movie and say he is Darth Vader's cousin . To me, this Star Trek was cheeseless pizza on gluten free crust. :(

Im not excited. I am a die hard Trek fan, and I have even come to respect Enterprise for what it was, even though I thought it went too far to be slotted in between TOS and TNG. It trampled on canon, but still it looked and felt like Trek. I loved the reboot too. I felt that some things got cheezy like the sound effects, the over use of lens flares and way way too much shiny and sparkly for my taste. But for a long time since the release of the last film, I have been concerned with the direction the next sequel would take. Wading through the fake fan made trailers on YouTube, I found these:

First pictures and some set footage from the film

The official trailer has not been released, according to IMDb. But it looks like we will get Kahn (rumored). Somehow, they are going to get Kahn out of this guy? :

View attachment 27298

I dunno, I do not see how that can get a believable Kahn out of this guy. Nothing wrong with his looks, but his overall presence is just not there for Kahn, in my opinion. Miscasting? Who knows, it might work. I have not seen any of the effects or heard any of the sounds. But if they have not changed them and things remain somewhat consistent as far as theme music and overall feel, it could be a good film.

Im not excited about it though, surprisingly. I hope it will be great. But it might not be.

Bumping this because I pretty much got it right. Cumberbach was SOOOOOOOOO not Kahn. Why did they even go there? The least they could have done is thaw out the other sleepers and have them attempt to take over the ship. But that line of discussion is moot. Abrams just wanted to have him in the movie because that was the most successful Trek movie from the old timeline. But that Kahn was a continuation from the TV series and he was a fleshed out character. If Abrams does the third film, Trek is done. It cant continue on in this same direction if they want to revive interest in it. There are too many other franchises which will eat it's lunch. There is nothing in it for the thinking audience. Only for the mass audience who thinks Transformers and Avengers is science fiction.

Please DESTROY the Enterprise GT, send Spock back to Logic School, and euthanize that crusty faced alien hanging out with Scotty.

As much as I hate Abrams' Trek, I think he will do a great job on Star Wars. I think they will love him and that his Star Wars movies will be blockbusters. After all, they don't need any science, and the story can just be plucked from any number of children's books or cobbled together from the existing Star Wars canon. He will only mess up if he changes the design of the Millenium Falcon (if he uses it), or the Imperial Cruisers, or somehow changes the light sabers (ie, makes them have to have a scabbard). Also, he has to stick with Jedi/Sith ROBES and not change how they dress. Everything else, he can pretty much take liberties with IMO.

But he cant handle Trek. He lacks the intellect.

Star Wars is very easy to do, just keep the technology simple, in the background (as in useful and practical but nothing standout or flashy with similarities to world war 2 like in the originals) and focus on a character driven journey of discovery, mystery and intrigue. However I just got a feeling I know he'll screw with something, something which is fundamental to Star Wars (like Mr Lucas did with the Force...). The last thing you want is a 're-imagining' of something which is supposed to be a bloody sequel.

This, exactly. It's going to happen. Abrams won't be able to leave well enough alone and just keep it simple and true to the original premise. :moody:

He will introduce a female Yoda, then have the Emperor return from the dead (or worse yet, make him a spirit enemy), and the Jedi will get "the force" from a device that can be stolen, allowing them to be stripped from the ability to use The Force...just some candidates for Abramization

Yep, 100% inevitable. He will change something fundamental to the franchise, just to "mark" it as Abrams. He could make it as simple as giving Jar Jar Binks the nickname of "JJ". :anim_59:. Im really afraid he will resurrect Darth Vader or the Emperor somehow...a timeline shift, some magical Sith powers . Where is he gonna get the brainpower to invent new baddies?

OMG...how about he keeps the same design of R2D2, but in his Star Wars he can actually speak (in a robotic voice). THAT could really really happen....

As long as the character embodies oodles of pointless whackiness and just generally gets in the way then I'll be happy! :joy:

In the EU of SW the did resurrect the Emperor, but as a clone, so that's not outside the realm of possibility :P

What would be the point? He'd still need to be raised to be an A-hole. Plus what is the guarantee that he'd have midi-chlorians in his body that same as the original one?

1: It was a full grown clone, so no need for baking time
2: This was before that stupid drek wormed it's way into Canon.

So at what point would they "reboot" his memory? I mean, how do you just grow a person and how does their brain get filled up with memories, etc.?

(Don't mean to thread drift here btw ;) )

Unlike "light side spirits" Darksiders can possess other bodies. Normally you would have a "dominance struggle" but as the clone is full grown but with no personality, the Emperor just imprints on the empty mind.
