It has a name: Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Looks like I was the sucker after all. I wish I had gone to see Iron Man 3 instead.

I was afraid of this, but I got a whiff of it in the first movie. He got a pass because it was a reboot, but the second one plots a course, and I knew something was up when he and his minions approved the hideous new Enterprise GT. And the sounds being made by the shuttles and such, all screamed of Jetsons meets Transformers. Strangely enough, I think Abrams will do a GREAT job on Star Wars. That crowd was never demanding and never needed science. Just good old fashioned fantasy and simple heroes. Trek is beyond Abrams' capabilities.

Errr........
You seem to be forgetting the utter gutting Lucas got for SW 1-3.
SW fans are demanding, just not so much for the science aspects.

The movie is pure action bullshit. There is nothing that makes you think, no clever and creative solutions to overcome obstalces, just brute force.

In the past, when faced with a stronger foe, they employed creativity to overcome the obstacle. They showed how brain will always overcome brawn. This movie has none of that. It's just brute force. Shoot, bomb, smash. That's how they win.

Then there's the whole internal ship design. There's a point where one of the crew needs to physically fix something. When you look at why the f**k it was even designed that way, solely to create a situation and satisfy a scene, you'll want to beat Abrams with his own director's chair. That part reminded me of the scene in Galaxy Quest where they had to go through the "chompers", a completely useless machine in the engine room written in solely to create anxiety for a single episode.

And I'm SO TIRED of that stupid, goddamned apple store bridge with the eye-level blinding lights and that idiotic brewery on the way to the warp core.

I enjoyed the first movie for what it was and gave Abrams a pass for trying. This movie was pure, unadulterated bullshit aimed squarely at kiddies and mindless turds who like to watch things blow up. "Into Darkness" is exactly what one would expect it to be if Michael Bay were helming it.

That's part of the game when an actor gets a role in a popular show, find them in past shows and their bit parts in movies. I believe she did a crime drama around 6-7 years ago.

Didn't DS9 have a sex holo room? And Lt. Paris on Voyager say he spent years in the sex holo programs?

Too bad for the SGU crew the Destiny didn't have one of those. :) Actually it's probably better they didn't. They argued amongst themselves enough as is. I can only imagine the chaos and fighting that would ensue bringing a guilt free sex chamber into the mix.

Im numbed with dispair...:bored:. Just go ahead and throw those stones into Trek as well. Do a crossover where Jar Jar Binks commands a flying jellyfish which guides the Enterprise GT through the core of a water planet where the "Gooberfish" live. :bored:. But wait...the Borg are waiting, and now they look like this:

So!! You'll have no prob in "spoiling" it then right? Spill it!!

Also found this from ATLANTIC WIRE via Yahoo;seems there may be hope for new Trek tv shows without either Abrams' blessing or input. CBS still owns the rights to all the old shows and to any new ones. Paramount only own the movies. Some weird deal they made back in the '70's-but thankful they did now!

Also, the main point of the article is that Abrams went for SW and lost interest in ST because of this tv ownership thing and, therefore, his inability to create a multi media/platform nuTrek approach--apparently Disney will allow him this latitude with SW.

Which brings the next question; will there be any nuTrek movies or will Paramount go back to the "original universe" so to speak?

Paramount has already gone this far with the movies. They'll just continue in this universe but hopefully without Abrams. I'm tired of this shiny new interstellar Apple Store powered by a beer factory.

Here's another thing. Old Spock shouldn't be concerned with polluting the timeline one bit because his timeline no longer exists. It's gone, done, over. Even Vulcan is gone, so, it's not like things *might* go back to normal. Why doesn't he bestow Starfleet all the technological and tactical knowledge he has in his mind? Why not give them cloaking and the means to detect the current Klingon and Romulan cloaking technology? He could avoid the 20 year war and spare the bloodshed that ultimately leads to the Federation signing some stupid accord prohibiting them from acquiring or developing cloaking technology.

About spoiling, can't do it yet. I'm morally bound to wait for the rest who wish to suffer this nonsense to have their chance at enjoying it. :icon_lol:

Here's a short Youtube critique of a small but important part of the movie that gives the plot away for those who are wondering what this movie is all about. Suffice it to say, the Internet rumors were correct.

Yes, but CBS owns the tv shows and its up to them if "CPT WORF" hits the small screen and not JJ. :chuncky:

And everyone said that Khan had no part in this movie....

So, does the villain have a totally mundane name because he is revealed to be "Khan" or is it someone else?

I guess Old Spock makes another appearance hey? So I guess he doesn't want to be a "spoiler" either by not giving away the "big tech secrets"?

Did someone end up going into the irradiated chamber and dying then? A "genesis planet" coming up? Are we going to time travel and save whales next go round as well?

Does JJ Abrams have any imagination or original thought beyond the realm of TV shows(FRINGE,LOST,ETC)?

I see that several cam versions are available, but they say the beginning is cut off. I was going to go see it this afternoon with Illiterati, but I got busy and then read some of the stuff here. She has seen it already, and she liked it. So, if there are those who liked the film, please chime in! I should see it and tell myself it is for review purposes. :) Last showing tonight is 11:30 for the 3D version and 11:00 for the 2D version. Also, OVERNIGHT, the prices dropped from $16.50 to only $12.00 per adult. :)

This second one will get a rise from the older Trek fandom now that it has repeated its mistakes (or strengths, depending on your view). This film deserves a proper front page GateFans Review. A thread will be created automatically here, and the comments will be available on the front page.

Yeah, it's Khan. You find out early on, too. Keep in mind this movie takes place a few years before season 1 of TOS and some 15 years before Wrath of Khan. You get a brief "oh, by the way" type of explanation of how and why he ended up here and now, so, Abrams doesn't leave you completely up shit's creek without an oar.

It looks like he wanted his own immortal "Wrath of Khan" movie but this one fails miserably and doesn't hit anywhere near the mark. I found the story stupid, the plot devises pointless and contrived and spent most of my time wondering why the f**k they didn't use technology already at their disposal to do certain things they took the long way around to do. It's difficult to disconnect and enjoy a story that totally ignores an established history, scientific and otherwise, including things as recent as the 2009 movie.

Their phasers are no longer phasers. The ship shoots light bolts, as do the hand weapons. The ship's "phasers" are no longer distinguishable from photon torpedoes.

Bro, since it's pocket change to you, why not go see it? It's not a lot and it will lay some questions you have in mind to rest. You may like or you may find it as insulting to one's intelligence as I did. Either way, it'll be fun discussing it with someone else who's seen it.

I would see it at the movies except for my general distain for the modern "theatre experience". I would NOT however go in expecting TOS or even TNG movie levels of "trekkie-ness"
See it as an action flick with an I-ship, and you will be fine :P

Oh, money was never the problem. :) It was the feeling of dread which has been fed by several overseas reviews and now mirrored in what I am reading here in the states after the reviews. But you are right, I really don't have an excuse. I will have to go see it tonight. If I see the 2D version, I will be back by 1:00am which is perfect. :) The ticket agent told me that it was Iron Man 3 which was causing the lines.
