It has a name: Star Trek: Into Darkness.

Aw hell...he DID ruin the Klingons:

View attachment 28164

What is with those Klingon weapons? Klingons like knives and blades more than energy weapons. :( Why the silly gladiator uniforms? OMG, if he changed the Klingon warbirds into spiky tumbleweed looking monstrosities, Im done with New Trek.

like i said, they look like a bunch of flunkies from Sturgis

I mean, what else to expect from a guy who is not a fan?

I just watched a video on scanning electron microscopes and how they allow us to see atoms. The reason we can't observe them with conventional light is because its wavelength is larger than an atom, so, we needed something with much smaller wavelengths that wouldn't change the property of the atom.

It also looks like the planetary model of the atom may be misleading. From what I've read, the electron orbits the nucleus as a cloud and not as a planetary-like satellite.

Dude, you should write physics manuals for people like me who are fairly illiterate when it comes to this stuff. Seriously, you do a good job of it. You were the first person who was able to clearly and concisely explain to me how the Star Trek warp drive works. :beckett_new049:

Brother, if I had even half the mastery and command of the English language you possess, I could probably do a better job of conveying my thoughts. :)

It may not be a particle at all. Perhaps physics will finally be forced to move forward when they can see for themselves that the 19th century models are wrong.

Just saw the pictures of the Klingons and well, all I can say is this.

Uruk Hai Advance!?

ORC_COVERBILDER_ger.jpg

(P.S. Why does JJ Abrams remind me of Dark Helmet, just thought I'd put that image in your minds now. You are welcome)

Edit instead of double post:

So found another trailer (aka international trailer 3) and a video clip.

To be honest I also was skeptical of the guy being Kahn, though it depends on the direction they are taking with him (since the time line has been changed but it does beg the question as to who released Kahn from the cryo ship in the first place). The voice I think is pretty matching, reminds me of the Vayger Warlord Makkan off Homeworld 2.

Who is this Harrison guy anyhow? I mean, is he a new fabrication or a rework of an old character?

I did a search of him (as a ST character) and all that popped was for new ST, but of course something may have been missed

If he is a new guy, then what happened to the concept of the same characters and events happening slightly different in another existence? Doesnt this villain change that concept?

I dont like it. The first Abrams Trek gets an automatic pass for being a first time out movie. But this next one will plot the trajectory he has for Trek. I get a sinking feeling that he will miss the mark and verify my worst fears. :( Klingons that wear helmets and robes? The Enterprise GT? The Apple bridge and brewery engineering deck? Romantic Vulcans and Jetson's sound effects?

I will see this next movie, but I will not pay for it.

Ok, that was an awesome trailer. Almost as good as this one that sold me on the new Trek.

The right musical score makes all the difference.

Did anyone else notice Harrison's ship and how much larger it was than the Enterprise? Is the premise of this movie that he steals a Starfleet prototype or that he's managed to bring a Starfleet ship back from the future?

who the F is Harrison? What a complete banal and pedestrian name for a villain

After thinking about this for a long time (5 minutes) I've come up my opinion on the matter of the new Star Trek and potential direction.

The issue is that Star Trek has now become another action movie, an enjoyable movie no doubt for most who have only seen/heard of the initial layer of Star Trek. Granted the TNG movies tried to do this also and failed, hard. It goes into the idea of them simply using a name title, taking the obvious aspects and subverting it into action genre. Frankly the first movie is dumb as a stack of bricks plot wise and in some areas character wise, but I did enjoy the movie since once I wiped away the Star Trek name.

The big issue for myself (can't speak for others here) is that because of this transition into a more action focused piece, this Star Trek has lost all moral fiber. No longer are we seeing debates on ethical or logical dilemmas but instead a more black and white approach.

The other issue and will fully admit this is a nit pick but you can tell what games JJ Abrams has been playing recently. Mass Effect 3 where the council meeting gets blown away, to the Dead Space 3's dive into the debris field while dodging objects and wall running on a turning space ship.

OMG, please don't tell me that he's going to try and avenge his wife's death or some tired crap like that?

Interesting this info I found, the coordinates given on the video I posted earlier are the same coords used in the episode Space Seed where Khan was first found (if I am wrong, oh please tell me I am wrong, seriously). I got a feeling they'll give him the code name Khan or something silly like that. But the question is funny in that why is there an Excelsior class vessel (or at least very similarly looking one) in this movie? Considering that in this time the Constitution class vessel is the most advanced, but hey I guess bad guys like having their ships really big right?

I was looking for that (bolded)...did not see it. Can you give me the time index? Methinks you are referring to the Enterprise GT that Abrams et al have cooked up. My only joy comes from seeing it crash and burn. :moody:

Ah, I missed it because it was dark...is does look like the Excelsior, and the size difference is about right. WTH? Abrams seems obsessed with alternate time stuff. Considering the liberties he is taking with iconic Trek stuff, for all we know that could be a Klingon ship. Next will be red Andorians and the introduction of the Goa'uld homeworld.

Indeed here is a picture/frame of the ship itself, its just a silhouette mind you but has the outline of an Excelsior class vessel.

Edit: I have awesome timing on this. Again, why is the Excelsior class starship like 4 times the size of a Constitution?

I think it makes more sense to wait and see. So far it just sounds like we're picking a film to death that no one has seen. Star Trek 09 turned out quite well, vastly superior to (for example) the TNG films. Right now all anyone is accomplishing by hunting for any snippet and looking at it in the darkest way is making oneself cynical. Maybe it's just me but we have enough "Sci Fi" out there that is bad (Defiance, Transformers and the like) without needing to prematurely declare things bad.

BTW, saw Iron Man 3. VERY good. Nice completion of the Tony Stark character arc and the Mandarin was also handled well.

IIRC Paragon, the Excelsior class was the first generation of the true "long term" explorer class vessels.
