My thoughts also. Pretty weird season finale with Nolan and Doc Youell flying off in the Omec ship to find them a better place to live. Plus we get the Tarr's bonding with Amanda and they set up a ship between Irisa and Alik. and the big battle with invulnerable Kindzi came down to a fight with her being thrown into a turbine.

It actually hearkened back to the series finale of Earth Final Conflict of all things, with Liam, Renee and the token Talon flying off in the Talon mothership carrying the pod with all the hibernating Avatus to find them a different world.

Normally I don't like when they play a sappy emo song at the end of an episode but I liked the ending on this one when they played "Everyone Says Hi" (Bowie song but sung but someone else). The flight of the ship jumping thru the galaxy was pretty cool. Of course now Nolan is literally lost in space and I don't see how they could logically bring him back to earth, but then again, this is a live-action cartoon so it wouldn't surprise me if they managed it somehow.

That said, I think the producers have reached the end of their guaranteed seasons (and the bottom of their bloated budget) and gave us this ending just in case they don't get "invited back" for more.

I think the days of writers giving us these over the top cliffhangers at the end of seasons when they do not have a guaranteed next season (to get another season) are over. Syfy lost massive viewership over doing that over and over again. It was a top complaint about that channel. So much so that the channels are making sure they give us endings, even if it means giving a shorty last and final season, or a two-parter for closure. They used to END shows back in the day. Even Gilligan and his castaways got rescued. Jeannie married Major Nelson. With the exception of TOS, every Star Trek series has ended cleanly.

Having said that, if they have put Nolan (the anchor of the show) into space and headed him towards "a better place to live", that sounds like an ending to me. The game is dead as far as MMOs go. Let the thing die!

I think a lot of the quick wrap-up for cancelled shows is done specifically to make it look like the show was a legitimate success. It's a way of saving face for SyFy and also a way for them to be able to offer the DVD package and make more revenue off the turd that got flushed. After all, there are plenty of people who refuse to get involved in a show these days if they know it's just going to end without resolution. So now SyFy sees the value in offering some sort of resolution. Of course they wouldn't have this problem if they actually gave us quality stories to begin with. ;)

Well, to be fair Nolan is taking the Omec to a better place for the Omec to live (not necessarily a better place for Nolan himself to live).

Bottom line is that he is leaving the dumb town of Defiance behind and the show will not go on without him. :) Remember, I stopped watching the show at the end of season 1, so I do not know anything about the Omec. :)

That brings up the question of how he's even going to live. He's stuck on an Omec ship with tons of sleeping Omec that will eat him the second they wake up. Plus there's zero human sustaining food stores on that ship (that we know of). How is he going to eat? And what's he going to do when he reaches a new planet, release the Omec? How will he live on such a planet?

What they should have had him do was transport all the Omec to a faraway world, then "drop ship" them to the surface. He then could return to earth using their ship. So they would be stranded on a planet unable to get to earth and eat people and he would be back home safe and sound. Easy peasy. I don't understand why this wasn't done in the show. Why does the flight to a different part of the galaxy have to be a one-way journey?

I had not thought about the DVD angle. :) What good is a show without an ending? Surface was a GREAT show. If they had one more season, they could have ended it and it would be a cult classic today. They ended Firefly, but they could revive it still. Same with any of the TNG-era Star Trek shows (with new names). The only example of a show I can think of where it makes no difference that there is an ending is Falling Skies. They RUINED their chance at making a good ending by wasting their final season on filler crap as though they might get yet another season or a TV movie. The ending tomorrow will be crap, no matter how they write it. They cannot end it cleanly in a single epsiode.

Hush your mouth! Let them send him to the ends of the galaxy and get eaten! Isnt that a good thing? :) :P

Actually the Omec story line wasn't that bad if you view it against the other seasons of the show. Of course the show was flawed right out of the gate so that isn't saying much.

I will say that I am impressed by the production values of this show, namely for this season. When I compare the set pictures of Tripler's to the finished product I'm impressed. They did a good job of utilizing the sets and incorporating FX into the scenes; certainly better than they did in the first season. (I'm still shaking my head at the video game style FX of season one.)

True. I never said the episode was properly thought out because it wasn't. I don't think the Omec will accept Nolan as their leader after all. So, we have doc using the sensors (I guess) to find a world which has lifeforms the Omec can actually eat and where they will drop them. Otherwise they could have achieved the same effect just launching the ship into deep space and setting the autopilot to find a habitable world.

The whole "one-way trip" gimmick was bad writing done for dramatic effect. It took us all of 2 seconds to come up with a more logical way of dealing with the problem "humanely", minus the needless martyrdom of the lead character. It's a shame the writers fizzled out at the end as they did manage to keep some of this season interesting.

The writing went south when they had Kindzi kill Tevkin. Otherwise they could have had a much stronger finale culminating in a regretful Tevkin finally being forced to destroy Kindzi and then he voluntarily leads the Omec away from Earth to seek out a new world.

What was the name of the DJ alien who was broadcasting from the arch before they blew it up (or so you guys said they did)? Was he killed off? Is there ANY hope that Datak Tarr and Stahma are somehow brutally killed and eaten dy something or somethings? What happened to Irisa? Who was the Wookie? So many questions...

Okay, so regarding DEFECATION, was last night's episode the series finale? It sure seemed that way to me. (Not that I'm complaining mind you as this show needed to end. Hell, it never should have seen the light of day to begin with, certainly not in the form it was presented to us in. But I digress.)

Yes, but I have not seen confirmation from a news source.

They wrote a nice ending to the series, so I suspect that they knew that they would not be renewed.
Like I said, given Syfy's history with shows, if you have not got renewed by seasons end, chances are you are boned. SGA, SGU, Eureka, Sanctuary all suffered the same.

You are 100% on the money with this. We have all seen this one play out before. This one is different only in one way: They got one season past the originally contracted 2 seasons PROBABLY specifically to wrap it up, but POSSIBLY to get a 4th season (if it had done great). They should have marketed season 3 as the "final season" (because that is what it really was). The show is cancelled, but we just have not gotten the announcement yet. :)

Yep, the only time it was actually renewed was season 3. Seasons 1 and 2 came with the original deal.
