SyFy Forums going dark on January 1st

As a newb here and on GW, I think each has advantages. On first glance, GW seems simpler and easier to become accustomed to. While I can figure out most any board I run across, I don't always want to spend the time and effort to do so. So the simplicity of design / layout award has to go to GW, as far as I can tell.

But, GW is also very heavily focused on Stargate related topics, where this place is more open. And the policies at GW do hint at more strict control over their users, but censorship remains to be seen at either place. I've yet to enter into a controversial topic on either.

We just dont do it. Just not conventionally, that is...if you take a look at our CCPG here: http://www.gatefans.net/gforums/thr...-guidelines-please-read-before-posting.23856/ , you will see that there is yet another place you do not have access to which is COMPLETELY uncensored. It will shock you. But no outright porn or sick stuff, just uncensored commentary on just about any subject you want to talk about, using any profane language you want to use. Very useful for rants.

The Council here will not mod anyone based upon their commentary unless it violates the Open Forums rules, and even then it will just be moved to a more appropriate area rather than deleted. It works quite well here. Gateworld has nothing like it.

The Xenforo forum software is very modern and you do kinda have to get used to it, but there is just so much more you can do here that you cant do at other scifi boards. IGN is running this.

Im really glad you are checking us out here, because you have a lot to add and you are outspoken. I highly respect that trait, and I have it myself.

Gateworld is far less heavily moderated than it used to be.
It's still moderated on language and so on, but 9/10 times, that really does not matter all that much.
Quite frankly, once you have been on GW for awhile you will notice far, far less focus on Stargate these days and more on shows that are currently on other channels.

So, pscard thinks GateWorld is friendlier than this place? Okay. Wait until he/she encounters the censorship (unless they have dropped it). Anyway, all are welcome here. The Syfy Forums are still up today. When I get some food in me, I plan to go over there and gather as many as possible. Also, perhaps we can reach out to GateWorld and form some sort of alliance? All of the channels have eliminated their forums. All that is left are the private boards and the increasingly difficult to find User Reviews over at IMdB. It is as though they don't want people to reveal stinker shows and movies before word of mouth kills them. Forums are a liability over at Syfy because most everything they are airing sucks.

For posterity:

The Skiffy Forum is basically over. They started to seal the doors and Windows by 3:50 Pacific Time. The last official post was recorded at about 4:30 coincidentally by the "Bandit" individual.

I suspect that is because Facebook is making deals with media outlets such as newspapers, broadcasters and such; they are essentially paying media sites to drive people to FB or require that you be signed in and post with your Facebook identity. Many newspapers across the country have done exactly this with their online version reader comments pages. I'm betting Facebook collects data about these people, and uses it to market to them or sells it to marketers outright.

some body should have posted some BACKPAGE or CRAIGSLIST "massage" ads to show SYFY just what we really thought of their forums

or an ad for free manure would have worked as well

According to scuttle-but, if this is the third, then the Boards could be up for 11 more days. Being the contrarian, that "Bandit" individual says that the Board is so inter-laced together once they start pulling strings the Forums will become unstable. Most likely the Board would not of been 'archived'.

So far so good.
