Ratings II

Wait. They were dissing McKay? What did they say? I'm sure it's a set up the upcoming appearance of not-McKay, but still, that bites.

This:

TJ: "...with Dr. Jackson and Col. Carter... and what was the name of the guy who kept staring at your..." *gestures at Lt. James*
James *makes a face* "Oh, McKay."

Again, McKay has matured a lot since his early days of SGA.

He has dated Katie and nearly proposed to her and now dating Keller. He is in regular contact with his sister and her family allowing him to be part of a family, he's finds solace in mathematics and solving problems, and being an "action-hero". Yes, in his earlier days, he may have been way intelligent but would be awkward and so weird but he's not like that anymore, he's grown up, has learnt some self-control and is more empathic.

To imply that he is to this day, some sort of major perv that stares at whole big sets of breasts and is simply loutish is so, disgusting.

Thanks for the info :) so they seem to have a one mill core audience in all countries.

Yeah, that's pretty much true for all the bigger countries. Though in countries like Sweden where 3 million viewers is considered an amazing feat and close to the highest rated show of the year, the audience share is of course significantly lower than that. A member of gateworld said something about SGU averaging 80-90K over here (about 10K less than Atlantis which used to air in the same time slot), but he didn't post a link to anything that could back up his info.

Definitely going for early era McKay for his upcoming appearance then. Not that I didn't doubt it from what Hewlett was saying. I think he wanted one last chance to play McKay, and he took it, since he knows there's not going to be a movie.

So now can we say it's fanon that SGU is taking place in an AU because a character from another show in the franchise is going to appear in a non-current canon way?

17 comments so far and all you see is excuse after excuse for the ratings.
It was the wrestling
It was the night
It was the Competition
It was the time slot
The G.P. are a bunch of morons
It doesn’t suit me to watch it live
I don’t have a nielson box so what does it matter.
(and those are just the “common ones)
and it just rolls on and on.
How many excuses does it take before the simple realisation that the show just wasn’t interesting to the “general viewing audience” starts to sink in? Is that a tragedy?, well to it’s fans, sure it it, they feel like they have lost something they enjoy to the “vagaries” of a system they (mostly) simply don’t understand, or, if they do understand, just choose to ignore.
Simple truth is however, all the excuses in the world are just an attempt to “shift blame” onto some other reason besides the show being a *commercial failure* because if it was a *commercial success*, every reason given for it failure would be turned into “proof” that the show was a “good show”. You can’t “have your cake and eat it” folks, it’s as simple as that.

Well said gatefan1976 :)

Just saw the comment, and I so agree with Gatefan1976.

It simply boils down to this, if SGU was that good, people would watch it (hell, I would watch it), but if it's crap, why on earth would anyone bother to watch it? Simple logic.

There was initial brand loyalty and millions flocked to see it but after a while, many people realised that Stargate 2.0 is utter shit, the brand defective and stopped watching. Just because a minority of fans claim it is epic therefore is worth seeing doesn't mean, the majority like myself agrees, or will agree.

Where did Gatefan post that? Good post btw.

N/M, got it. I would love to post that on the GW forums, watch how fast it would be removed, lol.

Seriously MS and myself have watched these numbers, it is the show, not the timeslots or dayslots. People on GW sometimes don't understand how ratings work.

Sometimes? Are we on the same boards, Briangate?

Just posted this on GW...

I find it interesting that the character threads here and other sites lack for SGU characters compared to SG-1 and SGA. It just seems, and it's my opinion that people cared more and/or could relate more to the SG-1/SGA characters, AND had characters to root for while watching the episode.

But if you think my theory is that far-fetched, then compare the amount of threads posted here and say at syfy.com, and if that is not strong enough, take a look how many people are browsing the character relationships folder for SGU, SG-1, and SGA.

The funny and ironic part is, SGU was supposed to be a character driven show.

Are we taking bets on how long it stays up?
