I live in the midst of production for many television programs, and I've done Production Assistant work in the past, and yes, the actors are very busy. When they are not filming a scene, they are often rehearsing, running lines and/or are blocking shots. Rewrites happen all the time, so lines much be relearned. Plus, a scene is rarely shot from only one angle, and that doesn't just mean they have more than one camera on them at a time. They RESHOOT the scene from another angle, and then it's finally edited together to show changes in perspective. That all takes time. That's the reason why you'll often see beverage levels change in a scene when they swap perspectives.

You'll even see them going over their lines (and learning new ones) while they are in the makeup chair.

There is a reason why so many television actors have drivers take them to and from shooting locations. They're often too damned tired to take themselves to and from those locations safely.

as someone who works with doing the REAL grunt work for moveis series shows etc you are not telling me something i dont already know and i still think they have a breeze ie 2-3 weeks of 6 day 14h/day work but then they can relax for quite sometime on the oney they made people like me on the other hand who actually make the stuff look good cut it toghther post production VFX etc work those kind of week/days/hours for almost the whole fricking year as when a 6-8 month project wraps up we cant just take a break for a few months no we have to start on the next 6-8 motnh project right away or most of the time during working on the first project and lemme tell ya een tho some of the senior guys get a decent paycheck overall compared to actors directors and producers we are on a slave labour wage for the sheer amount of work and hours we put in.

I still giggle about that idiot from the failed SGU cartoon who came here to try and talk smack about you. He was such a whiny little bitch. It was hilarious! Just his whole attitude from thinking he could commit copyright infringement to his rejection of your professional services and advice to getting all pissy and defensive when the legal hammer came down and squashed his stupid dream. What a tool he was! :smiley-laughing021:

Good times, sigh... :chuncky:
oh yes i remember that and i smirk when i think about it :P

Uh, those 14 hour days last from about oh...July through about March, except for Thanksgiving and a month-long Winter break.

They film an hour long episode in about two weeks' time and then immediately go onto the next one. They don't have time for those 2-3 week breaks you're talking about.

Maybe things are different in Sweden, but here in the States, it's a bear for the whole cast and crew.

for a tv show yes and by that amount of time id say a show with atleast 24-26 episodes in a season. not a production with far less episodes or a movie.

Well, at 24 episodes a season, that works out to about 48 weeks of work right there, with that schedule.

I've done PA work where I worked an 18 hour day (being an intern can suck that way). No fun at all.

As for movies, I can understand your point.

It actually makes me laugh when I think of the actors who implied that television was somehow "below" them, because it was somehow not as good. I actually have more respect for television actors, because they have to learn far more in a much shorter period of time than their big screen counterparts.

well one thing tho television is RARLY as good as some movies story and script and vision wise and i can relate to a "good" well known actor not wanting to do shitty syfy tv series for much lower pay and longer hours can you? :P

but yes id say they put in more hours then a movie actor as they produce several more hours of video for sure
i do however think that most TV is pure fricking crap and only few VERY few tv shows ever manage to produce movie quality story and performances very vry few... the only ones i know of on tv atm is breaking bad and sons of anarchy and imo its amazing that SOA produces 12hours worth of GOOD movie qual footage every season.. thats a looooong movie and they manage to keep it intresting througout with no filler or nasty ass tv crap that plague every other show..

See? Drama AND suspense. He's already got you on the edge of your seat and it's just a 54 second clip. Imagine 2 hours of this stuff!
