Deep Space Nine: The only Star Trek series to end cleanly.

I cannot for the life of me find where I read or saw it, but that's no entirely true. The overall outline was pre-written, yes, but not all the little details.

Sinclair had a longer story arc written for his character. They had to rewrite Sheridan into the story when the actor playing Sinclair decided to leave.

His reappearance in the future was also a rewrite, although it was well done.

And the entire tone of Babylon 5 was more sinister than DS9 ever was (just the mention of Za'ha'dum' sent chills up my spine). It was actually gripping and intriguing. The characters rose above the plastic prosthetic makeup and became believable. The rubber faced "aliens" in DS9, well, not so much.

I just finished my week-long rewatch of Deep Space Nine. All 7 seasons of it...
I think it may be the best Trek ever produced for TV.

It was darker, I'll agree there

I find that interesting as one of the plot points you did not mind was Garak.

Why is that "interesting"? The Garak story line was actually politically intriguing. The guy had a back story and was more than just a simple tailor. He actually grew as a "human" if you get my drift. He wasn't all about melodrama.

That was a nice episode that tries to nearly explain we all came from one ancient advanced species.

Stargate did the same thing except they populated two galaxies.

Oh, but B5 didnt have a problem with that...not at all. The Narn and Minbari actors really look like that in real life! Oh, and the Centauri (especially Mollarti), they didnt have rubber faces, which was great. Instead they shared hair gel and wore ridiculous hairstyles.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely loved Babylon 5, but to say that you love Babylon 5 and hate DS9 is not a mutually exclusive choice. I loved them both. I found the tie into Star Trek's universe made Deep Space Nine a great addition to the franchise.

I just finished my week-long rewatch of Deep Space Nine. All 7 seasons of it. You know what I realized? This is the only Star trek series which was ended cleanly, without Deus Ex Machina, and the preceding episodes led up to and finished the series in a final fashion not shared by the other series. Star Trek TNG the TV series was left intentionally hanging to make way for the movies which came later. Enterprise was abruptly ended, Voyager managed an ending, but it was a Deus Ex Machina IMO.

Something about the interpersonal drama in DS9, the decidedly alien space station, the intrigue and the appearance of every species of Trek alien seen in previous series (plus more), the space battles and the planetary scenes, I think it may be the best Trek ever produced for TV. Perhaps its just because I am sitting here feeling satisfied at that ending, fresh off viewing it. Anybody watch this show when it was on or since?

I watched it when it was on the air and twice since through NETFLIX.

The first season was a bit slow (many shows 1st seasons are) and the Q tie in ep was pathetic. But it got going pretty good with the Cardassian war(s) and all of the Klingon cultural and political drama


(We get more of the Klingons in DS9 then in any other show IMO)

not a big fan of Kira or Odo though

Also, I really enjoyed Quark. The shifty, intentionally low keyed (he's a survivor) persona that he breaks apart when the situation dictates.

LITTLE GREEN MEN was probably my favorite, non-arc episode.

In DS9 too, we finally get a break away from the nearly sickening diatribe of "Starfleet isn't military, we are explorers" schtick that I just don't see could be possible. Hell, starfleet has blasted its way across the galaxy when necessary-not a pacifist org by any means.

The thing though is why do "mainstream" SF personnel have to be the soldiers/'marines'/attack forces as well? Surely an organization like this would have a dedicated military arm better equipped and prepared then a bunch of guys in polyester with hand phasers?

This could go on and on, but yes I think as you-probably the best of all the series' (though I did enjoy ENTERPRISE quite a bit as well-I like "beginning" stories)

AND the B5 VS DS9 issue as/is a big "battle"

I think you've been drinking bleach for real. B5 and SGU are like comparing apples and shit. There's honestly nothing to argue there. DS9 spent entire episodes on melodrama and feel-good stories. The O'Briens' baby, Sisko and his son sailing the solar winds, Kira and her love whateverthefuckhisnamewas.

B5 didn't dedicate entire episodes to Lennier mooning over Delenn.
