Really? You sure you have seen DS9? Rom would be the Neelix of DS9. Quark was a great character, but Dax and Kira and Odo and even Worf and Martok and the Dominion characters like the Weyouns and the Gem Hadar...central to the overall arc of the story. DS9 could not be made without having a Bajor.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate the show, I just preferred it in its original wrapper.

For the record, I thought DS9 sucked balls. it was the first serial space opera and it made me wanna throw kitchen appliances at the TV every time it seemed like some action was JUST about to happen but pulls back at the last moment to give us more friggin' soap.

Yeah, B5 was way less soapy. If you look at the DS9 space station, it's shaped like a space-age soap dish. We even see a used bar of soap splash through the opening credits leaving a foamy trail. The underside of the space station looked like a fancy shower head. When Odo changed shape, he reverted to a soap gel for a moment. The whole show suggested soap.

I just found the whole Bajoran/religion thing to be a HUGE turn off. I mean really, who cares about the prophets and all that BS? It was so lame. That was their core mistake in creating the show. They should have just embraced the space station idea and ran with it instead of getting bogged down in a premise that was just so GD boring!

Also, it was a total waste of the acting talents of Louise Fletcher. Stupid role as a villain that didn't conjure up any antipathy or interest in my estimation.

It wasnt that bad, bro! Sure, there were suds a bit, but this was a drama. There was just as much soap in B5 to me...nothing wrong with a bit of that, but not to the degree we see it in say...The Walking Dead or SGU. What about the battles? The interspecies conflicts? The ships?

All that "cool" stuff happened in later seasons and it was just a distraction from the actual suds. DS9 was one big bar of soap. Even the initials subliminally suggest it -> Dove Soap #9.

Enterprise should also be stricken from reality. It was a fanboi wankerfest.

Come on. Q claimed that the Q had been around for "billions of years" and they could do things by simply changing the laws of physics or "changing the coefficient of the Universe" and such. Aunt Kathy? Q babies playing with Moons by knocking them out of orbit?

I saw it. But still, the "love bed" and the catty Serena-esque female Q made it into the episode for all to see. So did all of the other stuff (finger snapping, twitching people to other planets and into costumes, etc.)

S1 perhaps but they rinsed out the lather following that. However, it wasn't overly melodramatic. Dish Soap 9 rarely left the confines of the soap dish and every season had a major love story arc with a few minor love stories around it.

It happened for reasons other than the story or the writing. Babylon 5 was written from beginning to end before any episode was ever aired. All 5 seasons, every episode. It was to end after that arc and it did, but other things happened in the years the series was running, and Sinclair leaving for Sheridan was a decision imposed on B5 from outside the writing team.

I cannot for the life of me find where I read or saw it, but that's no entirely true. The overall outline was pre-written, yes, but not all the little details.

Yep. I know the whole story. Huge B5 fan here. Point is Sinclair was gone after S1 and B5 was nowhere near as soapy as DS9.
