Star Trek Discovery SUCKS.

I already posted this link a while back in the Thread. Season 2 is already guaranteed because Netflix paid for it but I don't see it going beyond season 2. This show from the beginning was suppose to have a VERY short shelf life like all shows on streaming services unless you are stupid lame of thrones.

Cool. There's so much stuff on this show I can't keep it all straight, lol. The article is so over-the-top fake and disingenuous that it's laughable. Like how you point out that Season 2 is already guaranteed whereas in the article they try to use it as a point of titillation, as if renewal isn't a done deal and we should all be on the edge of our seats waiting for the announcement. How stupid do they think we are, lol? :icon_lol:

I like how Kurtzman says he is doing bold things with Star Trek . Really dude ! How about destroying the franchise one movie at a time and a show...

Reminds me of Brad being interviewed and him going on about how "so many things Stargate going on" and how it's a "brand" he wanted to leverage into movies, more series and products. He was babbling on about how SGU was "gonna be cool" and such. It's in here somewhere. :) Kurtzman thinks he has it goin on with Discovery. Watch, and somewhere during this season there will be some award given, and the media will be paid to spin that up.

Why would they bring Captain Georgiou back? Flashback maybe? Why should anyone care? In the first episode, she and Michael the Insane are chatting it up with girl talk in the desert of some random planet violating the Prime Directive, talking about how Michael should be in command of her own ship. Then, less than a day later, she is pointing a phaser at her on the Bridge because she just knocked the Captain out with a Vulcan neck pinch and is escorted to the Brig.

How could Captain Georgiou have known her for so long and not known she was insane?

Interesting theory he posits; that the jokes in The Orville are there so they can claim it's a parody of Star Trek thereby they can avoid getting sued for copying ST.

Nothing in the Star Trek IP is being breached. Not one single thing. They are legally clear to do the show and CBS Paramount cannot do a damned thing. So yeah, it is OBVIOUSLY based upon Star Trek, but not in any way that would be recognized in a court of law.

True, but Paramount could bring suit regardless. That doesn't mean they would win, but it would create a lot of problems for Seth MacFarlane. Financially he would have to defend himself and that could cost millions and make it a headache to continue onward with The Orville. Also, Paramount could be jelly that TO is a success now that they blew their chance to hire Seth for a ST show. So there's always the possibility that this giant corporation could sic their legal dogs on TO.

I don't think they will because Seth MacFarlane owns the younger generation that ST craves at this point. If they go after him for being a funny version of ST they risk the chance of losing any future younger ST fans.

I couldn't make it all the way through episode 1. It wasn't Star Trek, it was something I didn't recognize and it actually hurt my skull to continue watching it so I bailed. I like Star Trek a lot, but not all Star Trek. It's weird how a franchise can be so hit and miss. Sort of like the movies with the original cast - only every other one was worth watching again.

Yes, Trek has a history of hit and miss, but Discovery is in a class all by itself. It's a whole lot of WTF?!

I think it's down to who grew up with who so we wouldn't like it, but as far as I know, many that did not grew up with star trek quite a few don't like and the ones that do, are, well, not Science Fiction fans but more generally drama fans. Maybe this was their demographic?

My daughters best friends husband is a carpenter on std . I saw her today but had not the heart to ask her how her hub was doing or hows the show going . I would have thrown up on her shoes if she had said it was a hit ...

I'm not sure what they are trying to do. To me science fiction is about "if we discover this or that, what might that lead to and how might that change things", rather than let's try to make commentary on the political issues of the day. The show gave me a headache.

Good thing you quit watching the show when you did. The headache you experienced is a symptom of the cancer you will get by watching this show. -- Yes, this show causes cancer. The Surgeon General is going to require the show carry a warning label much the way packs of cigarettes do.

Between the show having possibly the most unlikeable characters I have seen in years and the bizarre storyline this is one of the worst shows I have ever encountered. Its attempt at political commentary is both ham handed and likewise bizarre. In fact, by making the Klingons essentially isolationists wanting to preserve their culture and the Federation apparently determined to interfere in it the Prime Directive is turned on its head. In the REAL Trek world the Federation would respect isolationists because of the Prime Directive. But then the entire conflict at the core of the show never occurs..... :D

Don't worry, your filters are still working! It isn't science fiction. At the most basic level, there has to be some.....well, SCIENCE in the mix somewhere? This has none whatsoever.

I loved the latest Discovery episode. They discovered how the Krill have a superiority complex and some rather barbaric religious rituals. Nice and edgy, like you would expect from a modern show. I also liked how they still managed to put some humor in the otherwise obviously serious story, like with the car rental jokes and the leg.
