Section 31...Really?

I tried, I tried to take one for the team and watch this. I made it about 20 minutes before putting on a rerun of Dinocroc as a palate cleanser. It's not just not Trek but an awful movie in any sense of the word. Illogical plot, tone all wrong, terrible acting and "characters" shallower than a puddle on the sidewalk with no arcs. That something as idiotic as Dinocroc is a palate cleanser after this thing should say it all.

I gave this a go last night. Found it hard to keep myself awake. I'm gonna say something that I haven't said before. This is Star Trek in name only. There is simply nothing about this production that is Star Trek. If you were to give this some other random name, it would be a stand-alone movie that is not related to anything that came before. I reckon it would have been better off for it. Having seen this, I am so glad that they made a movie instead of the TV show that was originally planned. The opening scene was very dark, and also predictable. That was perhaps also the best scene of the entire movie. The characters that made up the Section 31 "team" were stupid, and the acting was poor. The best character was probably Georgiou, but compared to what she could have been it fell flat as well. Not sure whether the actor is to blame on that one, or it was a result of poor writing and casting of the other characters. The overall story was lame as F. The picture quality was bad. I can't be certain that wasn't due to streaming, but since I was streaming through Paramount+ the quality should have been decent. Especially the scenes with the "out of phase" fighting were hard to watch, and of course the camera was all over the place any time there was action, making that hard to watch as well. There is nothing about this movie that stands out to me in a positive light, and given how forgiving I can generally be, that is a rare thing. I shall want no more of this Star Drek.

One more thing about this. There was this character which thankfully appeared only in a scene or two, the one with one side of the face painted black and the other side of the face painted white. Just yuck! Not because of the face paint but because of the way they acted. They gave me a strong impression of depravity, and it seemed like this was not because of their acting skills but more like they were playing a part of themselves. But then again, perhaps it was acting, in which case they were pretty good I guess, but I still hate the character all the same.

I do actually think this belongs on a "worst movies ever made" list...
