I thought there was a resemblance: Jamil Walker Smith is the grandson of Greg Morris.

I thought in the back of my mind that there was something familiar about Jamil Walker Smith's face. Well, for some of us older members who remember the original Mission: Impossible, the actor Greg Morris is Jamil's grandfather!

I have a personal connection to Greg Morris, as in the 1980s, Greg's daughter was quite popular and he had a home on Sunset Plaza Drive where there were great parties. I even helped DJ one of them with my best friend. I was invited to many parties there. At that time, Jamil would have been a baby! But the resemblance is uncanny.

If you arent young enough to remember the original Mission: Impossible, Greg played the electronics/surveillance expert of the team, and was always the guy "in the walls" setting up secret devices and tapping phones and rigging other cool traps for the mission. I really like Jamil as an actor, but he is still too over the top "angry black man" in SGU for my taste. I would NEVER have worn that ridiculous tribble wig. Jamil should have protested loudly about that. But I just wanted to share this! :)

Is he really that guy's son or is this just a parody/lookey likey?

So, OM1, you were partying with Greer's mum. Wouldn't it be ironic if, after a few too many bevvies, that Jamil was in fact OM1.1! One of the biggest anti-SGU voices related to one of the cast members of that very show! That kind of soap operatics would fit it well with this show! Like Luke & Darth Vader!

Not his son, his GRANDSON

He is Greg Morris' GRANDSON, not his son. Greg had two children, Iona and Phil (knew them both, and they are about my age +/- a year). I never saw Jamil, but he is the son of Phil Morris (below). You may remember him from Star Trek. I knew his sister Iona better than Phil. Phil is Jamil's father:

LOL! I never had sex with her!

LOL! I never had sex with her, but I definitely wanted to! (actually, she isnt that hot) Those parties were wild. That house overlooked all of the city and had a pool deck which somebody got pushed into during every party I ever went to in that house. But we were 20-somethings then, I wasnt in any sort of relationship with her. The main reason to go was because it was a star party! I actually have quite a bit of exposure to actors and actresses, even now. But that lifestyle does NOT appeal to me at all. :)

Yeah he was good on that Star Trek episode. Should have been a recurring character.

Actually, Phillip Morris was in "One Small Step," where he was a NASA/ISA astronaut that got swallowed up by an anomaly of the week. "Message in a Bottle" had Andy Dick as the guest star.

I remember the episode was very heavy on Morris and had something to do with him being a Mars mission astronaut or something without looking it up. As for Veeger, I often forget that was Star Trek. It's been a long time.

I do however remember Brother from Another Planet quite well. ;)

This also explains why he's one of the few actors that hasn't put his foot in his mouth. He's from a family of people that know show business and so he has a good idea of how to handle himself. It's also probably why he's a good actor in spite of the material he has to work with.

The only Mission Impossible I've seen are the Tom Cruise movies. :tomato:Still, I've heard it's a great show.

I'm in total agreement with you on this one, Greer for me, went from being one of the most unlikeable characters on SGU to being my favourite & I am going to put that down to the acting of Jamil rather than the writing or JM, BW & co.

Phil had a small role in an episode of Star Trek (TOS) Miri...small boy in army helmet. he is also in search for spock and playing the son of his dad's role from the orignal in the remake of Mission:Impossible in the late 80's. I remember him best for a JAG episode..the man is HOT in navy whites! :D:D

well here's hoping that with acting genes like that JWS can easily rise above the dreck that is sgpoo. :P

If my memory serves me right, a guy in the audience during SGU's comic con panel in 2009 said that he was a huge fan of Jamil's father and grandfather, but Jamil replied by saying that he was in no way related to Greg or Phil Morris. I'm pretty sure you can find the video on youtube. Though maybe I'm wrong about that. Where did you get the info anyway? If it was IMDb, I would bet a million on the info being incorrect.

What that the one where he froze in the martian bound spaceship?

Actually, Phillip Morris was in "One Small Step," where he was a NASA/ISA astronaut that got swallowed up by an anomaly of the week. "Message in a Bottle" had Andy Dick as the guest star.

If that is the one where he was talking into a recorder and ended up in the anomaly frozen to death, and then Seven of Nine retrieved it, then I stand corrected on the title. But I know the episode. :)

Yes, I am quite sure about my information on this particular tidbit! Greg Morris is Phil Morris' father, who is Jamil's dad. I only discovered it recently because since JWS' last name is Smith and not Morris, I was confused. But Im quite sure! 100%

I have been digging, and he has a very long list of accomplishments even as a young adult.

Yeah, that was one of Voyager's higher points. The only bad part about it is that they changed it from a Chakotay story to another Seven learns things about humanity story. It lost a bit of its impact from that change.
