After the generally poor quality shows that have been on in first run, I felt the need for a palate cleanser so to speak. I chose at random and picked Eureka.
Turned out it was a good choice.
Unlike the dark, angsty stuff we have been getting lately Eureka while it can get dramatic still has an underlying spirit of good to it. It really does feel like a hard Science Fiction riff on Northern Exposure. You can root for pretty much every character - the true villains you can count on one hand and have leftover fingers.
Yes some of the experiments were preposterous and yes sometimes it was silly - but on occasion it is a good thing. The touch of whimsy in the show also is good.
All in all it served its purpose well.
