Our over-the-top services had a particularly strong third quarter, thanks to the exciting launch of Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access and the Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor pay-per-view event on Showtime. Of course, premium content is also driving our success at the CBS Television Network, where we are once again #1 this season, with two of the top three new shows, including Young Sheldon, which premiered as the #1 show on television overall. In addition, for the first time, the majority of our upfront deals this fall are based on viewing over a seven day-period, which means that we are now beginning to monetize millions of viewers we were not getting credit for a year ago. So from our new OTT services to the monetization of delayed viewing, and from our burgeoning international business to rapid increases in retrans and reverse comp, we are just beginning to capitalize on significant growth areas for the future."
They have not given the figures... I wonder why...? This is so vague.Revenues for the third quarter of 2017 increased 3% to $3.17 billion from $3.08 billion for the same prior-year period. Affiliate and subscription fee revenues were up 52%, led by Showtime Networks' distribution of the Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor pay-per-view boxing event, 27% higher retransmission revenues and fees from CBS Television Network affiliated stations, and growth from new digital initiatives, including the Company's owned streaming subscription services. Content licensing and distribution revenues were down 22%, mainly due to the timing of domestic television licensing sales. Advertising revenues decreased 5%, driven by lower political advertising sales.
Entertainment (CBS Television Network, CBS Television Studios, CBS Studios International, CBS Television Distribution, CBS Interactive, and CBS Films)
Entertainment revenues of $1.82 billion for the third quarter of 2017 decreased 7% from $1.95 billion for the same prior-year period. Affiliate and subscription fees grew 35%, driven by higher station affiliation fees and growth from new digital initiatives, including CBS All Access and third-party live television streaming offerings. Content licensing and distribution revenues declined 26%, mainly as a result of the timing of domestic television licensing sales, which was partially offset by growth in international licensing sales. Advertising revenues decreased 3% for the quarter, partly resulting from one fewer Thursday Night Football game broadcast on the CBS Television Network.
Entertainment operating income of $345 million for the third quarter of 2017 decreased 1% from $348 million, while the operating income margin expanded one percentage point, reflecting a mix of higher-margin revenues in 2017.

It's 9 apparently and then a hiatus till Jan. Don't bother with discovery. It sucks. It's really, really bad but apparently they are preping up season 2.How many episodes are there of Delivery anyway? Is it 8? So, I have watched 3.5 episodes of it. It isn't getting any better, and I still would not trust Michael Burnham at the dinner table with a steak knife, fork or even a sharp steak bone. It's unwatchable as a series. That last episode with the disco was just lol.

It won't stop them from destroying Trek though.Breaking it down. First of all, understand that CBS All Access falls under the "Entertainment" section of the revenue tables, not Cable Networks. Looking at that, we see a net decrease over last year:

Now let's look at the other indicators. Advertising revenue is down. Content licensing and distribution is also down. The increased revenue for the quarter is 100% because of Affiliate fees and subscription fees (not CBS All Access). Content licensing covers the licensing of Trek merchandise, as well as licensing CBS stuff to be played on the affiliate stations or elements used in other productions.

So, it's still a pig. Of course, few if any of the shills or squeedrones are going to bother thinking about any of these numbers. When is the next 'splosion?

It's mainly down to old age. The lack of general apathy comes with old age after you've become successful because you don't want to help out others anymore. The Gritty stuff is in your face and provocative and it seems to sell. It's the same tactics used by sensationalist news and the media. This is generally where the whole world is moving towards.Yep, I can't remember how many episodes we still get in Season 1, but yes they must be prepping for Season 2 since they got a greenlight. Perhaps they will send a spy over to the Orville to see what their Season 2 will be? (I know, off-topic). As far as Discovery, nah, I am already done with it. I am not even interested in torrenting it. But all the episodes are on Kodi if I want to watch them.
Oh, that was done in 2009 already! It's a shame that these showrunners don't get Star Trek or care about getting it. They literally have millions upon millions to do it. Fan productions with less than $10,000 are doing real Star Trek. Star Trek Continues did Star Trek TOS for cheap. These showrunners still think it's only about the characters.

Actually, that has been the notion since the beginning of time. To throw a blanket statement like that is extremely prejudice. This generation appears to have flipped that narrative. They are all mostly apathetic, sitting back and allowing themselves to be programmed like when one installs apps on their phone. They spend more than 90% of their time being the passive (yet captive) audiences who are willing to give the money they have to others simply because they have been tricked. There is nothing gritty or provocative about Star Trek Discovery. A truly "gritty" Star Trek would have come out more like The Expanse did, rather than say...BSG (in my opinion, of course. ). The three Kelvin movies perfectly illustrate what I have said. The first movie is full of so much stupid! But the cast they chose to portray the TOS characters was superb. The movie itself sucked, and the Trek universe was destroyed. Then movies 2 and 3 doubled down on the stupid. Now, we have a series doing stupid on a weekly basis.
It gets worse. The whole cannon has been thrown off. Apparently Klingons now have cloaking technology and are passing it around . When the hell did this happen? I thought the Romulans had Cloaking technology. It's obvious that these writers just want to shit on the franchise and completely disregard whatever. I am glad that the Orville exist though. Fuck Discovery. This show sucks because it is a cuckoo egg laid in the nest of Star Trek. It admittedly dumps everything that makes Star Trek what it is, and tries to sub out science for fantasy spores, and sub out exploration for explosions. There is no meaningful dialogue or connection to events.

People used to believe that blood letting would cure them of their ailments. People(still) believe that is an imaginary being in the sky. People(still) believe that their tax dollars is being used wisely. Not to get political, but you get the idea. Stupidity has been around since the dawn of time. It's just gotten more focused. At least with the Kelvin movies, you actually could salvage something, but this is by far the worst thing I have ever seen. The characters/the story and general premise seem extremely sloppy. The only reason why CBS gave this one a greenlit is because they wanted to compete with Star Wars. It's obvious that was the plan. It was to rush this out the door and slap the Star Trek sticker onto it.

It was only a statement of opinion. Everyone gets one! Not until around 2008, a VERY large percentage of all people walking on foot are holding their phones to their faces. When you are not doing it, and your phone is in your pocket, you can see everyone around you doing their thing and you see the same thing:

Arguably, these people are plugged in even deeper and tighter than when they were only tethered to the construct when in front of a TV set. Now, they are tethered all day. With smartwatches, the phone can be put away and it will still intrude through the alerts on the watch.
I say all that to point out how dependent and pliant this generation appears to be. Things that entertain no longer have to have more than two dimensions. Does it look good on that 4K or HD big screen TV? D
Does it have a cool soundtrack for sale on iTunes or Google Music? Are the actors and actresses in the movie hot? These are the questions they ask. Watching Discovery in a purely objective way will not make anyone think of Star Trek, unless this is their first Star Trek show.
Seriously, they should have been looking more into something more financially manageable like The Clone Wars or Rebels (animated). If Star Wars ever spins off a TV series, Star Trek is dead for good, because it appears that nobody in the CBS or Paramount wheelhouse seems to be able to do Star Trek anymore. I guess all those people left to board The Orville.
I know, that's what I mean but in this series, the Klingons are shown to possess the technology first and are distributing it to other alien races.According to canon, the Romulans gave the Klingons the cloaking technology when they were briefly allied. The Romulans invented it. But you are right, this show shits on canon. It does not just ignore it, it intentionally destroys it.
