Universe - Who Cares?

Here's a bit of prophesy from a while ago.

http://screenrant.com/nbc-spin-stargate-universe-ratings-brusimm-41224/

The new improved season 2 Universe has only lost 2/3rds of it's early audience. But just keep watching, it's gonna get better.

It's obvious now in hindsight that they very quickly lost all their Stargate viewers that tuned in to see the new "Stargate" show. I see it's been coined SGINO - Stargate in Name Only.

The only site I see that still props up the show is Gayteworld and if you peel back the squees for a moment you will see that even they realize that TPTB served them a steaming pile called SGPoo. The people that actually like the show represent that small cult that believe if they chant mantras the rest of their life after giving away their possessions they will be teleported to visit Lord Zenu as his permanent guests.

The only way these crackheads are ever gonna see 4.2 again is if they start buying those props back and go find John Sheppard. Ripping off District 9 aliens just ain't gonna make it.

I like this. There is lots of comedy when you look in hindsight.

This is a GREAT little rant. And Im still baffled at the idea that this show made it to air. There must have been at least one real Stargate fan who was onboard at Syfy, and thought it was a piece of shit. As far back as I can remember to October 3 2009 (the day this show premiered), the fans displayed an IMMEDIATE reaction and distaste for the style, tone, and characters in this show. The fansites and forums discussing Stargate began to pan this show IMMEDIATELY (this includes Gateworld!). So, why didnt somebody say something to TPTB early on? Why didnt somebody simply say "Um, this show isnt quite right". Did they REALLY gamble millions of dollars on a bet that was already doomed from the start? Yep, they sure did.

Stargate Atlantis brought the entire Stargate fanbase into play. 4.2 MILLION viewers, LIVE. And in its 5th season, it still puts this ridiculous show to shame. TPTB didnt have to take chances, they didnt have to gamble. They have access to focus audiences and to their ratings tracks of past shows. How did this awful show ever get approved? Then, after it was clear they made a mistake, they instead blamed their loyal fans (and continue to do so). Now, those same fans are sinking this show by not supporting it, and it serves TPTB right for trying to take advantage of their "built-in fanbase".

Near the end of SGA I got the feeling that some of TPTB were getting tired of the show they were making, I remember one interview with one of them saying they don't watch Sci-Fi and wouldn't watch Stargate if they didn't make it. I understand that, and I understand wanting to make the new show different, but they had to understand that it was a risk, and that not everyone would be willing to go along with them. I wonder if on the inside they think that maybe people don't like the show on it's own merits, its hard to believe they are all as deluded as they appear to be.

Have they ever admitted that they made some bad decisions with SGU? Have they ever even thanked the fans they have now? If they didnt come across as such dicks, I wouldnt be a member of this site.

Isn't Peter Deluise (sp?) still involved with the Stargate franchise? I thought I saw his name attached to SGU as a director or something. At any rate, he's been so immersed in SG all these years that you would have thought that he would have stood up and said something about the wrong direction they were going in. Just doesn't make sense that someone who has been with SG from the start would go along with this latest incarnation.

And yeah, TPTB are such cynical bastards they thought they had a ring thru the nose of everyone who is a Stargate fan and all they had to do was pull on it to get us to go along and support their latest whim. If that isn't insulting enough they now blame us for not simply following their lead which, if you really think about it, is worse than insulting. Their arrogance and disrespect to fans of Stargate is just sickening. :puke:

Can I throw in some random gloating that RTL2 (the German channel that usually airs Stargate and did air SGU S1 surprisingly close to the US airings) still has no airdates up for SGU S2? While RTL2 isn't famous for great decision making, it seems they also caught a clue about SGU. Sorry, :mallozzicry:.

A lot of what Hollywood is about is knowing how to kiss ass, because if you offend the wrong people, you're out of work, and the studios, actors and crews all keep track of who is "in" and who is Bad To Know.

DeLuise is likely trying very hard not to rock the boat, so that he can get other directing work. This is a hard town to live in, and he's got to live by the unspoken rules.

Strange, but true.
