Whats up everyone... wanted to come by & say hi. Gatefans76 had invited me to come & be a part of this awesome community...
So a Very special Thank you to Gatefans76.
But I have been very busy.... so I think this is my first post.... lets make it a good one shall we..

Ive been working on my Stargate Mod for Joint Operations Typhoon Rising for about 2 years now...
Its been Tons of Fun & Countless hours of work. However now Im getting close to getting it all pulled together...
I feel its time to start advertising...lol

I looked at that video of you exploring the Mod. Awesome! Reminds me of the first Quake or even Duke Nukem. :) What happens when you go through the Stargate when it is engaged? I like the way you made the chevrons glow when engaging, and also the iris. Cool mod! What is the base game? Can you place enemies where you want them (ie, can they come through the Stargate).

Well when you go threw the gate you travel threw the wormhole to another world...lol
(I dont have a vid of that yet because my wormhole isn't finished)

The gate system can be set up for individual gate to gate operation or I have networked up to 4 gates... giving you 3 other worlds to explore at once.

And yes there are 2 types of map editors possible 1 NILE will work reguardless... the other MED (MapEDitor) will need to be compiled after the mod is built... but for the new user NILE is easiest to work with and yes you can place enemies wherever & with a tiny bit of code they can travel threw the gate.
And the scripting language in this game (Joint Operations Typhoon Rising by the way) as far as scripting missions is extremely simple although, as with anything at times, you can make it difficult if your trying to code something crazy or extremely complex.
Honestly its comparable to command prompt coding "IF then endif" stuff...

Absolutely Correct my friend... totally playable over LAN or Internet Server. Supports up to 150 players Max or 250(minus 1 for the player or 2 for 2 players & so on) AI max... of course the more players the less AI you can use... However that's why we have respawners...lol

Also after the Mod is completed I'm working with a couple people to see if we can beef up the engine.... basically maximize memory allocation since most computers today have several gig of ram... If we can pull that off I will be extremely happy...lol
Basically i know what i need to do on a previous version of the engine, so i need to recreate it in this version of the engine.
Its actually a tiny edit in C... but locating it within all that code is insanity... & it might be written slight different. So i need someone who is good in C to look at what i have on the old engine & locate it within the newer engine & make the edit... If I absolutely have to... Ill learn C...lol

Well I modeled it after the Ksst version & it looks almost exactly the same.
His was like 24000 tri & 40000 verts so I think mine is a signigficant improvement.
I honestly I cant imagine one being made with less as it is a fairly complex design
Some of the detail also isnt visible. Nor is it completely finished.

The engine Im working in has more of a total memory limitation than a limitation on specifics.
In that i mean that lest say the average person is 2000 tris I can still have one that is 50,000 tris,
but then i cant have as many of them on a map at one time. So idealy you want to keep things as low
as possible so that you can have more memory left for mission stuff coding etc.

indeed a definite improvement but personally and the people i've worked with wouldnt spend that many polys on a simple weapon but if you have the poly budget to spare go for it as it looks decent enough but you should def work on the textures maybe add some normals to the front pattern?

and only 2k people? intresting they look quite good for being that low! well done!
so are you working with 3DSmax for this?
long time Modo and Lightwave user myself so have only dabbled in game-art and what i usually make is substantially more detailed for maximum realism etc

btw the SGA gate and its texture looks very familliar did you get it from the google warehouse by any chance?
oh and just a little fanboi crit you are using Daedalus on the Screens in your bridgemodel but the bridge model is from Prometheus but the Daedalus' bridge looks slightly diffrent :P

Well as it is clearly stated at the top... its a mod for Joint Operations Typhoon Rising.
Which is an enhanced version of the Black Hawk Down Engine.

And to be completely honest, I'm not even remotely concerned with how much better of a job you think you,
or anyone else you know, could do. Unless you, or they, are offering to help...
And if you think you can create one with less polys go for it.
I built this piece by piece using 3ds Max standard primitives & 4 boolean cuts
So I don't think you, or anyone else you know, could keep the same design & make it with less resources.

Please though... feel free to prove me wrong. (Honestly, I would be overjoyed.)

And adding "normals" means adding Polys. It has enough polys as it is. And since its already "WAY TOO HIGH POLY", for something
so "crappy" as you insinuate, then how would adding normals (More Polys) help?

Normals are NOT for shading purposes, they are back-faces that are not supposed to be rendered & do not in ANY way make a
model look better. A fact that most modelers clearly don't understand.

Yes My SGA gate came from Gavin Dunsire & yes it is on Google Warehouse. Gavin has created several thing for me.
Including the base template for my SGC & my Atlantis.

This is not, nor has it ever been, a secret.

And yes, I know its the Prometheus (original came from Sci-fi Meshes.com) & not the Daedalus but it only takes a little
modifying to make it into the Daedalus and since its also not done its ok too....
Ill get to it when i can.

Moreover, I don't mind being critiqued...as any advice, even yours, is always welcome and appreciated.
And I don't mean to come off like a dick, but to come in & start telling me how much better of a job you,
or your buddies could do, is arrogant at best.

Building a video-game is a much larger project than you can imagine.
Noone can hope to grasp the scope or complexity of a project like this
unless they have done it themselves.

Teams of people create video games... and it takes them years sometimes.

I am "1" person.

I think being cut a little slack is more than reasonable.

By the way Josh your mod looks interesting. I normally don't play games of this type. Except Portal, coz that rules. :D I might be tempted to actually give this on a try though.
