Let's do the math: She was a First officer for 7 years. We can safely assume she had at least several years in Starfleet preceding her stint as FO. I can't imagine someone would go from Starfleet cadet to FO in only 3 years, but let's be generous and give her that. That means she's been in Starfleet for at least a decade. But we're supposed to accept that all of her training and discipline is suddenly forgotten and she is now nothing more than a thuggish, cornered animal? M'kay.

Yeah, and why the fight? I thought she was all Vulcanized an sheeyat. So, Logic got tossed out the airlock and traded for brawls and giving the Captain a Vulcan neck pinch? This weird Kurtzman dude is determined to make Vulcans a violent species.

I can't believe that the fact that she's a violent hot-head wouldn't have come out during her years of Star Fleet training. That just does not make sense. How is it that in the 23rd century they don't have a decent psych eval at Star Fleet?

And yes, Kurtzman is trying to make the Vulcans violent and evil and full of machinations and schemes. Because when you're a culture that uses logic as your guiding philosophy you automatically become evil.

Gah! I was going to write more about how badly racist this show is but I'm too disgusted to even try much at this point. You got ghetto thug Klingons and an uppity chick that even the Vulcans couldn't beat the "angry black girl meme" out of. Nope. I don't even want to torrent it. What for? There is nothing in it for a viewer like me. After the partial 3rd episode, I was pretty much done. Maybe when the season is over, I might join for a trial and binge it, but something tells me I would not last. I truly do not like this show not one little bit.

Yeah this looks like BSG even the next episode is like BSG. Revolving saucer section . Oh jumps in this ahahaha, yes you read right, jumping from Battlestar Galactica, so instead of going to warp drive, it now jumps between sections. If you hated BSG, you'll hate this series.

Anyway, the whole mushroom thing is also becoming quite hysterical. Somehow this creature knows coordinates in the entire galaxy and he uses spores to communicate with them and somehow they use that power to 'jump' across galaxies...

Apparently, they are already in talks for season 2. Seriously? Have Netflix become that blind that they are just throwing good money after bad? Who is watching this garbage and paying money for it? This episode was pretty fucked up too.

I am done with this garbage. It's a ripoff even if you pirate it. Infact, save time and do something else.

Unlikeable lead - the main protagonist couldn't be more unlikable if they had her kill a baby in her first scene. Rude, indignant, stubborn, overly emotional. Not to mention the actress seemed to be phoning in her performance.

The Netflix trend of wasting tons of money has to end eventually. It's simply unsustainable. The company is billions of dollars in debt and is betting on future earnings to fix that. But shows like Discovery are going to make getting out of the red nearly impossible.

Actually all those will determine is whether Netflix is willing to pay for another season and how much. I SERIOUSLY doubt they are going to shovel $100 million to CBS again especially after the whole imbroglio between them with Netflix saying CBS misled them on the nature of the show.

So why would the number of viewers on Netflix worldwide have no bearing? There would appear to be no basis for your statement.

Also, the fact that there was security staff there doesn't mean anything. If someone attacks me I'm not gonna let them get me because I see a police officer further down the street. I'm gonna kick their fucking ass. And obviously the security staff in the show was standing by idly on purpose.

All joking aside dude, you take this shit too seriously. Yes it's fine to inquire about the impact of the Netflix Euro market but if it was capable of supporting high-end productions like this don't you think it would have by now? The success of Discovery is heavily dependent on North America, namely the United States. The scales haven't changed enough yet where Europe determines success in this regard. I'm not being jingoistic here, I'm simply stating facts.

We're just pointing out the complete detour into stupidity of a Star Fleet character. It's one thing for a ST character to get into a fist fight on rare occasions if it fits the story. But for Michael this trait seems to inform her entire character. She's always in fight mode. That's not a likable trait for a main ST character hence our criticism of it. We're not beating up on your explanation of it.
