Space Brothers

For people looking to watch a 'real science' show, I'd recommend this to everyone. However, this is an anime, but it doesn't fit the mold of your typical animes. The characters are really likable and genuine, as opposed to the over the top characters in most animes. Show is basically about two Japanese brothers. One of them is already an astronaut at NASA, the other one is trying to become one as well. It goes through that process because the two brothers promised each other that they would stand on the moon together. I love the bond the brothers share.

What I really love is all the realism. They explore the training astronauts have to go through at Lyndon B. Johnson space center. I went there recently, and they really got a lot of it correct. This is a very well researched show.

I like this...even though I still have a hard time liking anime. I think I like it more when Im high. :) But I do like this one because of the science. I only could find the one on YouTube...does it come in a form with English dubbed in? It seems strange to see blonde blue eyed characters speaking Japanese with English subtitles. The subtitles are distracting, but the story makes up for it. This is episode 1 on YouTube in two parts:

Catch this one also . Not sure why it's under anime in Netflix but it is . It's Japanese of course ... That's why ! I am just amazed by the quality of the computer graphics . I did watch Rough Necks when it was on TV also which again was amazing graphics and not bad story line ether . Better than the StarShip Trooper movies .

@Overmind One sorry mate, it's a recent anime so they don't have dubbed versions. But you can find the whole series subbed legally through crunchyroll: http://www.crunchyroll.com/space-brothers

@Tripler Haha, maaann, you might not believe me but right after I watched Space Brothers, I went google hunting for more anime like Space Brothers, and that anime you mentioned is the first one that comes up on several sites which I put into my queue to watch, haha.

HUGE difference! Thank you very much for that. I really hate subtitles. :) But today I am getting a 550 error. :(

Guys, guys...I can watch anime when Im in the mood for it, but Im still not at any point where I can think of anime and RL action as being anywhere similar. When I watch RL action or drama, I am watching a portrayal of real people in the real world acting out scenarios which are pretending to be real life. When I watch anime, I am watching CARTOONS which are portraying a completely animated universe which pretends to be a real world pretending to be real life. There is a big difference and they are not interchangeable. But to many people, they are. :). I am not making a judgement call here, just making a reality check. The anime I like tends to have adult-level stories in them, and a minimum or absence of cutesy small characters who are talking animals or other anime creatures that could not live in the real world.

Having said that, I LOVED Clone Wars which was complete fantasy. But it wasnt just cartoon anime like most of it is. It was a lot of CGI and that added a level of realism. I loved the original Johnny Quest. I like this Space Brothers show. Anime has to be exceptional for me to get past the fact that they are cartoons. I wish Netflix would clearly separate the anime from live action material in their video wall. Anime and live action are NOT interchangeable. It would not be okay to reboot say...Firefly...as an anime show. Just sayin!

But I do like this Space Brothers a lot. :)

Cowboy kicks the crap out of Firefly for story, and in less time.

Cowboy Bebop came before Firefly.

Are you guys referring to the live action Firefly and the Cowboy Bebop anime? If so, why are you comparing them? Seems to me that even if there were both a live action Firefly and an anime version Firefly released at the same time using the voices of the exact same live action actors and the anime versions of the ships and the universe, that they would still be entirely different things.

Why compare them??
Because they are both space westerns??

That's good enough for me. Not looking for a fight here...this time. :jack_new27: :P

I will admit though...when I am watching anime that I can get into, I tend to forget the fact I am watching anime and I go into a more interactive mode like I would when I would read comic books as a kid. But there is action there, and if the story is good, I will enjoy it. If I can still enjoy recordings of CBS Radio Theater stories, then I can enjoy anime. I put stuff like Clone Wars and Rebels and Toys and Cars in a completely different sort of animated genre outside of anime or cartoons. Those are the easiest for me to enjoy. :)

Bebop is still a cartoon/anime but the story is damn good.

You agreed OM
Have you watched it?

Oh yes! Actually, it was Illiterati who told me about it. She had created a forum for it and I asked her what it was. I have watched scattered episodes of it. Lots of good storytelling and action. But I would never compare it to anything live action.
