Sanctuary General Discussion Thread

They were definitely real. I somehow think the actor is really into stuff like that. It matches his personal style off screen. But why would they allow him to reveal them in the show? That had the same effect on me as a sudden view of Kate playing with a tongue bar, or seeing a "tramp stamp" tattoo on Amanda Tapping's lower back. I know lots of young people like that sort of thing, but to me a tattoo or piercings spell trouble and are enough to make me avoid people who wear them. Complete turn off. On a side note, I wonder if young people realize that Human Resources directors actually have handbooks and private protocols against people who wear piercings and have tattoos in places like the back of the nexk, on the face or visible in any form.

Personally, I assume that people who have visible tattoos and body piercings (especially snakebites and eyebrow and tongue piercings) are short-sighted people given over to fads and are not long-term thinkers. I cannot interact objectively with a person who has something stuck through their eyebrow or their lips whilst I am talking to them. :tealc_new050:

I'm seeing them now in places like WalMart, which has a history of ultraconservative employee policies.

Well, I never go to Walmart!

I'm seeing them now in places like WalMart, which has a history of ultraconservative employee policies.

I have never been in a Walmart. Now I know I will never shop there! Yes, I have such an aversion to visible piercings (other than in the ears), I will actually stop patronizing establishments where employees are allowed to wear them. I used to go to a Sizzler restaurant for lunch near a West LA client I have. I no longer go there because the waitresses are allowed to wear eyebrow piercings and nose rings. I find such self-mutilation offensive.

I am sorry my mind is really filthy as of late. (I am thinking of editing that post in case someone else makes the same mistake

Anyways, I should get into Sanctuary only watched like the first episode a while back, man I've missed so much TV.

I saw a hole in a mens room stall like that in a train station in El Paso TX. I couldnt for the life of me think of why it was there, but now I know. OMG! So....how would you know of such things? :icon_eek: I guess Im just an older conservative who is out of touch? LOL :) Now I know what its called. :)

Another great episode!

It's not the first time that his piercings have made their network television debut. Go back to the first episode where we see Henry change - Wolf-Henry charged through the window to save Will from an abnormal in the Sanctuary. Nipples!! From an "adult" persepctive, they can be very pleasureable in certain situations. And I'll just leave it at that...

My only nitpicking with this episode was Henry's wolf face. It was a little too Scooby-Doo-CGI for me. The female wolf was a bit better. And can we please have back to back episodes of Magnus and Tesla trying to solve the mystery of the lost city? Those two are magic on the screen together!!!!

We definitely got a bit off the track here I think.

For Henry to have such things is in character for him, remember that outsiders do this sort of stuff a lot and in his own way Henry is the biggest outsider they have. He is an abnormal who until this episode had no "tribe" or "people" to fall back on for traditions or culture.

On a different note, even without being a vampire Tesla and Magnus work well together. That said, let's give him his vamp back!

Re: Piercings

It makes perfect sense to me for his character to have piercings. Piercings and tatoo's are amazing prevalent in tribal/gang culture across the world and if you consider that Henry has extemely strong "pack insticts" from both his human side and wolf side, I would find it more "OOC" for him not to have any form of ritualistic style piercing/tatoo/scarification action going on.

Nearly one in four people in the US aged 18-50 have tattoos...

I know lots of young people like that sort of thing, but to me a tattoo or piercings spell trouble and are enough to make me avoid people who wear them. Complete turn off. On a side note, I wonder if young people realize that Human Resources directors actually have handbooks and private protocols against people who wear piercings and have tattoos in places like the back of the neck, on the face or visible in any form.

Ouch...I guess you have to stop talking to me then, and to a LOT of other people...tattoos are pretty mainstream nowadays. I think the last nationwide US statistic said something like 1 in 3 people aged 18-29 have tattoos. I have a pretty big one on my back and a visible one on my wrist. And just so you know, I've never used drugs and don't drink at all, don't smoke, and don't run with a "rough" crowd. I'm one of the least "troublesome" people you'll ever meet.

As far as human resources, the culture is changing, but yes there are still some places that look down on visible tattoos in the work place. For the most part I've never had an issue with my tattoos, and the only shocked reaction I ever got from anyone who saw them was from my grandfather (retired Air Force colonel), but he quickly adjusted his out-of-date stereotypical thinking about tattoos in light of the fact his own granddaughter had one.

Personally, I assume that people who have visible tattoos and body piercings (especially snakebites and eyebrow and tongue piercings) are short-sighted people given over to fads and are not long-term thinkers. I'm sure it won't surprise you that I disagree with that statement! I got my first tattoo almost ten years ago and I've never once regretted it. I thought the decision through very carefully and I'm happy with it for the "long-term." In fact I plan to get even more tattoos. If you ask most people with tattoos, I don't think you will find many who regret theirs. So...anyways I understand personal preference, and that tattoos aren't for everyone, but if you actually do avoid everyone with tattoos you are missing out on interacting a lot of very cool and interesting people.

As to the Sanctuary episode - I thought it was great! I enjoyed it much better than the Kate in "leather" episode :) Not sure how I feel about the underground world, suppose I'll have to wait and see how they develop it. When the "gates" showed up I half-hoped they'd do a Stargate crossover! But that would have been too confusing canon-wise I would think.

BTW I didn't even notice Henry's nipple piercings...

Well, not ALL of them...

I apologize if I have insulted you. But I half expected some backlash from my statements. Remember, Im the old man of this group :) My dad even had a tattoo on his arm from the Army Air Corps (which became the Air Force later). He was a Tuskegee Airman :). But the vast majority of the young people I see with tattoos are usually ditching school during the day, walking around a mall, generally being unproductive. I also understand that not ALL young people who have tattoos are like that. The one on your back is not going to be visible when you are dressed, and I dont know what the one on your wrist is, but Im sure its tasteful! (Im really trying to get out of this one) :) I didnt mean for any of this to apply to anyone in particular, its just my old-fart opinionated beliefs.

I have seen some beautiful tattoos on people, and I have seen horrible ones. I have seen cute ones which are hidden in the most delicate of places :) (that goes for piercings too). But Im just not into them. Im sure you would find me a rather stodgy individual when it comes to stuff like that, but not so set in my ways I wouldnt consider revising my out-of-date stereotypical thinking. :)

I'm sure it won't surprise you that I disagree with that statement! I got my first tattoo almost ten years ago and I've never once regretted it. So...anyways I understand personal preference, and that tattoos aren't for everyone, but if you actually do avoid everyone with tattoos you are missing out on interacting a lot of very cool and interesting people.

I have one client who uses his computers to create designs, and he is literally COVERED in tattoos. He even has them on his eyelids, and on the most private parts of his body. He is a very interesting individual, but I find myself distracted by the eye tattoos on his eyelids (they are tattoos of open eyes on his eyelids). The only other tattooed person I know is a guy who lives in my building who is a personal trainer and he has a bulldog on his chest and a dragon on his arm and those "barbed wire" style tattoos on his biceps. However, he is always drunk/high/wasted, and perhaps thats why I made that association. As far as the long term thing, have you ever seen how a tattoo looks on somebody whose skin has aged and is now wrinkled? Not a pretty sight. How will that dragon tattoo look on my neighbor when he is 65 years old? Perhaps I made a blanket statement, and again I am sorry if I have insulted you in any way

I think they will do some awesome stuff in the underground world of the inner earth. It will be a great opportunity to do some great green screen stuff! I noticed Henry's nipple piercings because no males I regularly associate with have any tattoos or piercings, and with his shirt off it was in my face.

Forgive me?

Apology accepted :)

Based on what I know of you (that you are a pretty open-minded guy in general) I figured that you probably just got a little carried away with that post and didn't actually think that poorly of EVERYONE with tattoos - but I had to check!

As for the majority of tattooed people you see - for each tattooed dropout you see at the mall, there may very well be an equally-tattooed kid sitting behind a desk somewhere...you just don't see them. Where I live, there are plenty of young people WITHOUT tattoos who skip school to walk around the mall. I bet there are un-tattooed dropouts where you live too, they just likely do not draw your attention like people with tattoos do. Also, a lot of businessmen or women might just happen to be wearing long-sleeved business shirts that hide their sprawling arm tattoos - I think you might be surprised to find out just how many people you see every day actually have tattoos you don't know about, because they aren't visible when they wear their "work" outfits.

Lol - that's what my dad always tells me (he hates tattoos), but I tell him that when I'm older none of my skin is going to look nice - it's all going to be wrinkled! None of it will be a pretty sight, tattoo or no :P So I choose to enjoy the beauty of tattoos while they last!

Hence why a tattoo should be put on skin that has much less chance of sagging as the years pass.

That butterfly tattoo on your breast when you're 18's gonna look Mothra when you're 70.

This episode left some strange thoughts in my head. First of all, the doctor at the Lycan facility looked a bit too much like Amanda Tapping as Sam Carter. Facial features, height, demeanor...all VERY similar to AT when she was a blonde. Also, Edward...why would they show that he has both his nipples pierced?

View attachment 2166

I couldnt help but notice them. In fact, in my social circles, piercings are associated with lower class people and drug users. Wouldnt AT know that? Even in today's society, piercings like that are associated with pop/teen subculture. I was VERY surprised to see that in this show.

He had piercing in Season 1 or 2 when Will first discovered he was an abnormal. Caught my eye also, not very attractive. Tat's can be removed. My daughter's $20.00 tat has cost her father and I around $2000.00 to have removed. Such is my daughter's interest in our money. Her tatoo was beautiful so we had it commited to canvas and hung it on the wall and had it made into jewerly and we all wear it as a symbol of what happens when her dad being the parent on duty at the time fell asleep at the wheel. I came out of retirement and plastice surgeron appointments were made and kept since she wanted to finish college and have her car and eat and buy clothes and have insurance paid. The color of my money is a wonderful thing and as a parent of a beautiful daughter who I think is work of art if I could pay for braces and private school and college I will also pay for tatoo removal.

Oh, Sanctuary, how I love you! You make me realize that the SciFi channel does have the ability to produce quality science fiction. I can watch Magnus and Tesla or Magnus kicking butt all day long!

The fact that they were basically running into the same “room” for 45 minutes really didn’t bother me since the fight scenes were really cool. Especially when it became clear that another piece of the lost city puzzle had been introduced - the suspense is killing me and I can’t wait for next week’s episode.

Awesome, awesome, plain awesome!!!

Fantastic episode.

Not to mention all the Helen fighting and Helen whump :)

This show is just :joy:

They took an abandoned building and built an entire episode around it and two people...and made it entertaining, suspenseful, exciting...sigh. WHY cant Stargate Universe use those dreary sets and do something similar? What if Simeon had been chased through Destiny instead of that dumb planet? He could have been chased into areas which were never seen in the ship, and given a segue into discovering the new hydroponics area they recently showed.. He could have stumbled into a new undiscovered area on the ship. Kinda what they did in Atlantis when hunting for the Wraith which was hiding in the city.

Sanctuary is DA BOMB! :tealc_new049:

Kates T-Shirt

Yeah, she played on a episode of SGA. Don't find her interesting. Just a homeless kid with skills way beyond her age level.

True she is friggin annoying but check out her T-shirt . I think she is on our side so give the kid a break lol

In the beginning, Kate annoyed the hell out of me. So much so, that I was hoping she would get eaten by something or somehow removed from the show. That was because I loved Ashley and thought the show would never be the same without her. Boy was I wrong! They fixed Kate very VERY quickly, and she is completely different now. They toned down all that street smart stuff, brought out her feminine side and her softness, but kept the badass fighting and snarky humor. She is a total BABE now! Even her clothes are better. Now, she is part of this team, and Ashley would no longer fit.

Yep, on Sanctuary TPTB (aka Amanda Tapping) actually listens to its fans. The feedback on Kate was pretty uniform so they adjusted the character.

And this episode was a good example of how they do more with less. These types of "small set" episodes are what this show truly shines at. As stated earlier, basically this was two people in a building. Just like last week we had a lot of Helen and Tesla in a room.

Yeah that's a really good point. The episode just basically was two people running around an abandoned building in the dark, and we hadn't even met one of them before but it was a really good episode. I cared more about what was up with Adam and what Magnus did to him or him to her in ONE EPISODE than I do to pretty much any of the SGU cast, and I've been watching them for over 1 season. That's the biggest problem with SGU for me, I can't make myself care about the characters so I find most of what they do and go through pretty boring.

I mean Sanctuary can get pretty silly at times but I care what happens to them so I get more invested and overlook other things.
