Robert C Cooper - Jump or Pushed?

So what do we think then? Was Rob C the first rat to ditch the good ship SGU or was he asked to leave?

Personally I think he was asked to leave.

So why is Cooper calling it quits — especially now, after Stargate Universe was supposed to give the writers a different kind of show to work on?

“To be honest this has been a very difficult decision,” he said. “I love Universe as a show and working with this cast and crew has been the best experience of my career thus far. However, it’s been a long time working on one franchise and a number of factors have contributed to my feeling that it’s time to move on.”

Cooper said that he isn’t being lured away by another project that is already lined up, but will take advantage of a break to make some decisions about the future of his career — be it in writing, producing, or doing more directing. “My head has been so full of Stargate for so long I’m really going to need some time to figure out exactly what I want to do next,” he said.

Surely if a person has decided to quit their job, particularly one they have done for so long, why does he need time to figure out what to do next? Shouldn't it be the other way around? A person leaves because they have something else in mind that they would like to do.

“It’s been almost my entire career,” he told GateWorld. “It’s meant the world to me."

Indeed? If it's that wonderful, then why quit? It's pretty obvious to me that he's been asked to go. Though to be honest, I'm surprised he hasn't said the same as most polititians in the same situation - that he is going to spend more time with his family... ;)

I agree...as one of the "creators" of this "new fantastic (insert hyperbole) SGU", the idea he would leave his baby voluntarily is a riot. I agree about having another job in the wings....why give up a guaranteed paycheck for ....nothing!?!?!? As wife I wouldn't be too happy about hubby just quitting his job with nothing else in sight!

and then there is the issue of what happened to briangate...he voiced his OPINION that RCC was asked to leave and Joe Mallozzi called him out on his blog...got him in trouble at syfylys too.

I saw it but unfortunately didn't get a screencap. :( It was deleted pretty promptly - though whether that was at Briangate's behest I don't know. He seemed pretty cut up about it. :(

He's definitely changed his tune, I can tell you that. But, got in trouble at Syfy? I hadn't heard that - Did he say that? I got the impression that he deleted some of his posts himself because he said he was embarrassed... I don't know. :?:
a little birdie said he got in a bit of a small mess..... but yes he has changed his SGU tune...A LOT!!!

I think RCC likes SGU as is. And he did not want to change sgu to suit whatever it is syfy etc maybe asking them to do. the sudden ability to now have sga cast members in the back half of season 2 after RCC has gone is why i feel this way. he's writing one episode in the back half? - im sure i saw that but could be wrong.

And i know i thought it would be Mckay on sgu due to the bridge visit and tweets but it seems DH is on the new Planet of the Apes movie which began filming this week. if solutions blog is to be believed.

Even if they make changes I think the poor character base will not draw the old fans back. Not even guest starring will make me watch. I'm sure they will have the guest star contribution to be so small in regards to their twisted plot that it won't make any sense. We already know that the cast from the other series can accomplish things. Accomplishment doesn't fit in with the chaos of this joke of a series.

Tuesday night in the fall will destroy SGU's #'s. Dancing with the stars and NCIS will have SGU cancelled by October. I say end of October we should hear the cancellation announcement.

Just tonite???

I'm sorry I missed the really juicy quotes by Brian :(
It seems he has also toned down on GW since the incident with JM, though he does let his true feelings towards TPTB show every once in a while with little gems like that pic. I guess it's tough working for Syfy, but the money for that nice Camaro has to come from somewhere...

Brian is the perfect example what SGU does to fans.

He was most of the time pretty considerate, polite and held back.
But even Briangates nerves of steel can not last forever, i think that the general dumb of the producers finally got to him and he lost his patience with the GW trolls at the same time.

Its amazing how this show can piss perfectly considerate and normal people off.
But the true genius (!) is that the producers/actors THEN add fuel to the fire to make it even worse.
Imo with Briangates "fall" SGU is going to fall in the fall.

tripple wordplay! C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!!

Oh btw, MGM canceled the new Bond movie completely, so, yeah...fail.

Cooper was instrumental in getting sgu and he's stepping down after one measly season? I see two possible reasons. Either he thought that sgu wasn't panning out and he jumped the flaming, sinking ship or he had 'creative differences' with other tptb or syfy and lost. It would be one thing if he was leaving to pursue another project but he explicitly says this isn't the case.

Is it true that J Mozz has been promoted in his place? This is exactly what happened with sga. Now sgu is truly going to go to shit. 8-)

Hey Brian/Squall, how much more punishment are you going to take at Gatey? Why let yourself get smacked down again by Malozzi and Syssy for being honest?
Come join us here incognito and you can praise SG-1 and SGA , and really bash SGU the way we know you want to!!

*sigh* This is sad. I always admired Briangate a lot, he was the voice of reason and I think never lost his temper ( at least what I saw ) and always provided well-thought-out reasoning and backed-up statements of facts. And while liking SGU ( at least in the beginning ) he still never stopped defending SGA or disagreeing with how it was cancelled. I hope he hasn't gotten into any trouble in relation to his job...

Well, I'm sure he knows he can speak his mind here, whether under his usual internet identity or another one! ;)

Mh, I think Cooper is halfway jump and halfway pushed. When I read all the "news" about season 2, especially the first half, I cannot see any changes. And from what we know it was Cooper who was behind SGshitty. Now SyFy want a change to the "good old Stargate-times" and nothing happen? Uhm, I don't think this will work because SyFy gives the money to produce the show.
I think on one sunny day Bridge Studios have a visitor from SyFy who wanted to check out what will be old-new on SGU. And what he/she has found was ... nothing! But as a man/woman who could take decisions he/she wanted changes ASAP. On this point Cooper was on top and wants to defend his so wonderful show. And the SyFy-man/woman said "No, you HAVE to change this show!" And I think in this way there were no similtaries between the money and the artist and Cooper's only decision could be to leave the production-team.

Okay, overbording fantasy, but who knows?
