Seemingly all they know how to do nowadays is "revive" and then butcher oldies - regardless of whether they were any good in the first place.
This is part of why I tend towards films like Godzilla films (I loved Shin Godzilla) and also more eclectic stuff like Lifeforce that I posted about here recently. Even when they don't completely work they at least are actual creative efforts.
I had no issue with the relatively stodgy characters specifically because they were portrayed in that manner to make a point. Shin Godzilla is VERY politically pointed from a Japanese perspective. Godzilla is portrayed a lot like a force of nature (a.k.a the Tsunami and the Fukushima disaster the Tsunami caused) and the stodgy characters and the overly bureaucratic response to Godzilla is meant to point to the same issues in how the Government responded to the Tsunami and the distress reports from the Fukushima plant where had they responded in a more prompt manner the entire situation likely does not happen.
The ending? The ending of Godzilla 2014 was classic Godzilla with him going back to the sea like he always does. The Brody thing dragged the film and it sounds like it will not be repeated in the next one.
Didn't they already butcher it with the new creepy version of TMNT?
