Sadly I think you're right and you made my pressure blow up too. That bit that he said about SG-1 being able to do well with movies was true because they only had ONE real story line to resolve when the series ended and that was the Ori. Hell if that's the case for SGA!!! Continuum worked so well (and Brad does get props for that one) because everything was RESOLVED on SG-1 so they could start telling one-off stories in a movie format. Again, HELL IF THAT'S THE CASE FOR SGA!!! It needs a mini-series for a decent setup to go into the movie format, or the movies are just going to be more of the same disappointment that the last season and a half was.
The Extinction movie is just supposed to be whatever SGA's 2-part season 6 opener was supposed to be, and I can't see it being all that great as a one-off story, a resolution to any ongoing plots, a way to bring the team back together, or any of the other stuff that needed to happen with SGA BEFORE they pulled the plug and started to do movies. The way that JM wrote Extinction probably is in the same rushed and overly simplistic way that EATG was done. Please get a new writer for the movies, or have JM get A LOT of help with his script if you are really moving forward with this!!! The movie also needs to be AT LEAST 2 HOURS LONG - NOT 90 minutes because so much needs to be tackled with so little time. And I cringe at the fact that it won't even really be an Atlantis movie (if it's even made) because the city of Atlantis is in the SF bay which means SG-1 territory. So, I expect to see the IOA, SG-1, and all that jazz hogging the next supposed SGA movie!!!
I need to stop right now because my blood pressure is going up... Sorry if that was a little ranty, but I really don't like how they ended SGA. I like SG-1, but when they are constantly shoving it into SGA it causes resentment for me because they don't do that the other way around and I'm glad for that. I wish they could and would respect SGA and its fans as much as they apparently respect SG-1 and its fans!!!
Exactly. DVD market my ass!I know that the financial considerations for the movies and SGU were different, but it does chap my hide that they poured money to the big black hole of SGU and their two proven money-making series got zip.
I still fail to understand why the movies couldn't have been made-for-TV if the DVD market is so terrible (I don't think it is, not for SG-1 and SGA but let's just play along for a moment). I personally don't need the big special effects, I just would like the stories. To me it seems that TPTB got rather full of themselves and over-reached with a new expensive series and bigger budgets for the moives (BW said on JM's blog that he didn't like the budget MGM proposed for Revolution). These series have always been more like the Little Shows that Could- they made a few dedicated fans happy, garnered a reliable general viewership and kept people working. They were never supposed to be epic extravaganzas with a cast of thousands.
Hubris has gotten us where we are today- the tragic end of a formerly great franchise.

Yo! This the shit I be talking 'bout round here. Those bitches could have used some of that scrilla to make a TV movie or two centered around SGA or even SG1, or both. It could have been a movie on one night or even a 4 hour mini series. They had all those cast members still walkin' around and even the sets were still available back then. Shit, they prolly could have gotten Jason "Conan Mutha Fucka" Momoa to do one of those movies. And I bet the ratings would have been stellar for the short run too!
AND not only that but those made for TV movies would have then sold really well for DVD. Win/win for all the players. AND AND AND they could have tossed some behind the scenes commentary from a bunch of talkin' heads for next to nothing right onto those DVD's, thereby increasing sales. Shit, throw Joe Flannigan's ass in a chair and have him talk about making the movie. Even have one of the asshole producers talk about how they wanted to end SGA the right way and tie up all the loose ends properly, ya know, on account of how much they appreciate the fans. That's how those brain dead window licking butt munchers should have done it, the mutha fuckas!
Wurd!
