Wow, I was really surprised to see this on Amazon. Evidently it came this year, starring Christopher Judge, Torri Higgenson and an odd collection of characters. Here is the trailer:


The trailer makes it seem even more serious than it is. It's really bad in the special effects and sets departments, and the characters are loose and seem to have been left in a large part to the actors themselves (bad directing). I can't believe that Torri and Chris took this job. Yeah, Torri gets to be a starship Captain, but on this show it is not a plus.

LOTS of sex jokes, tawdry banter and bad jokes. Thank god Seth did not take this path for The Orville. It feels like a parody bordering camp, but not quite making it there. I am now on episode 2.

Getting better, but not much. It has a good, proper theme track, and the background music is not bad. But this is not quite on the level of The Orville, even though it has that same old school scifi feel about it.

Oh, and Walter Koenig is also a regular. He is unrecognizable from when he was Chekov. He plays a ship drunk (yep, there is such a character in this).

It's really REALLY bad. Why did Torri Higgenson, Christopher Judge and Walter Koenig take the job? I think it might just be because they cannot find work in scifi anymore? Unlike Discovery though, this one can be fixed.

There are just three episodes, and all of them were bad. The second one especially.

Amazon tends to cut the cord on shows pretty quick so it is likely those three episodes are all there are. They keep them available though which is a bit weird.

Amazon executive don't seem to give a shit about how they spend their money because of how much they are raking in from sales alone. This is going to be the downfall of them if they keep this bullshit up. All it takes is one great competitor to own them.

I would bet my little finger that the budget for the actors is equal to or more than that allocated for the actual production and post-production. It looks REALLY cheap. Below that of video game cutscenes.

This this is like Passengers Lite. At least the bimbo they are using in this show seems more interesting than Jennifer Lawrence. And the meat rack dude they chose to be her companion, it just makes the whole thing seem pubescent.

LOL do you think Amazon gives a shit? They have experienced lawyers who can pretty much get away with anything including breaching multiple federal laws which includes, avoiding paying taxes and some serious Human Right violations which if you and I did it, we would land up in Jail but because it's Amazon, they can get away with it. Hell, they treat their people like shit by having unrealistic targets and demands.

All they got was a fine that is a pocket change for them which they made up within seconds.

Okay, on Amazon, it says they made this for "well below" $100,000. If that is true, then they did not do too bad. But that puts it squarely within fanfilm territory. I think if it did not have Torri, Chris and Walter in it, they would not have looked twice.

In all seriousness, everyone and their brother has a YouTube channel so why not GateFans? Our STD thread is littered with YouTube channels that were created by average Joes so it's not outside the realm of possibilities that we could make and submit videos (critiques, reviews, etc.) to our own channel.

(*Obviously we'd have to cut down on our Dutch porn content in the transition from forum to Youtube channel because I'm sure that violates the terms of use over there.)
