what the hell happened to freedom of speech?
Nothing happened to it, what DID happen was that you had a comment/thread removed from a discussion board.
This shouldn't be shocking as you clicked that little 'I Agree' button before creating an account there.
You...you DID read that, right? The terms and conditions of membership?
If you did you'd understand that whining about 'Freedom of Speech' is sort of silly considering that it's a discussion board.....
even if i liked sgu, i'd still be insulted that other people are banned from expressing their views.
The people who were banned due to the threats of violence levied towards other posters will be comforted by your support.
It's not up to you to determine what's ban-worthy or not, it's up to the folks who own that discussion board.
If you don't like it? Well, no one is holding a gun to your head to be a part of that community. You can just as easily leave.
I love a good debate and the best debate is when you talk with someone you disagree with (otherwise there is no debate)
if i'd be denied the ability to debate with people with opposing views i'd be just as angry as if my own right to speak was denied.
I don't understand how people see this happen and don't care.
Because it's a discussion board maybe? Because there are many, many other avenues for folks to voice their opinions about SG perhaps?
If it really bothers people THAT MUCH they're more than welcome to go elsewhere.
they're shooting themselves in the leg with this behaviour since more and more people will get pissed at SGU and it will drive them to not just dislike it but to actually hate it and fight against it.
The fact that anyone is 'fighting against' a tv show is one cup of 'funny' mixed with a cup and a half of 'sad' and blended together with 6 ounces of 'shut the **** up'.
It's ridiculous. There are
sooo many more things out there that are actually worth 'fighting for'. Imagine if the folks who whine the most about SGU actually did something productive with their time?
Me? I'm a member of the ASPCA. I rescue shelter dogs and provide a transition for unwanted animals until a proper home can be found. If posters here have THAT little going on in their lives I'd like to suggest they follow this link and find out some of the ways they can contribute:
http://www.aspca.org/donate/
this is why this site was born in the first place, isn't it? (not because of SGU itself but because of the censorship in gateworld).
Sure. And it's a great place for the folks who really, really dislike SGU to gather and blow off some steam.
I think that the more they tighten their grip the more fans will slip through their fingers
And they're more than welcome to slip on through. No one is forcing anyone to be a member at GW, it's voluntary.
That's why charges of 'preventing free speech' are so funny. You don't HAVE to be a part of that community. If you choose to you AGREE to follow the rules and claim to understand how that all works.
Figure it this way, the members of the Westboro Baptist Church are more than able to express their views but they'd be prevented from doing so (or extremely limited) if they were to come to my campus.
Are their rights being violated because they can't disrupt classes?
