In this we have a very ambitious film that tries to use many facets of current debate on issues from Space Exploration, Mars exploration, corporate/private owned space companies vs governmental controlled ones and the biggest issue-AI

Summary from metacritic.com:
After the first manned mission to Mars ends in a deadly crash, mission controller Mackenzie 'Mack' Wilson (Katee Sackhoff) assists an artificial intelligence system, A.R.T.I. Their investigation uncovers a mysterious object under the surface of Mars, that could change the future of our planet as we know it.

the company that Wilson works for as a 'backup' mission controller is a privately owned, government sanctioned one. She is a "backup", the only human one, to a AI controller called ARTI

She soon discovers ARTI has a"past". which may or may not include an involvement with the fatal failure of the first manned mission to Mars 6yrs earlier.

Now, we don't get too heavy into the "don't trust AI" theme, that is the general one.In the film, it seems as if the public overall has accepted AI and the only issue is with the nature and amount of control that ARTI has been given. Instead of the AI backing up humans, the human is there to back up the AI (and, is the one to take the blame if something goes wrong).

The film seems to be well made, limited human cast, and a focused theme.

There is no shipping, no sex, no deviation from the main plot and theme of the film. There are no social or political statements made about global politics, economy or man made climate change and nothing on the 'social justice warrior' front.

The film never blames AI for anything, rather, anything that goes wrong can be clearly connected to a human action and the AI is reacting to those decisions. There is a twist though-you can find out on your own.

The movie is cleanly presented UNTIL the end--

Here we get an overdone visual presentation of the major change- the "could change the future of our planet as we know it" from the summary.

in fact the ending sequence is very familiar of 2001's ending. Shown from a perspective of the human and the AI-- I'll leave it at that.

I do hope that someone else has watched this/will watch it. i do have questions and discussion that I do not want to enter now as they would be a spoiler.

The Belle of the Ball
ok you've sold me!
Been looking for good sci fi (sick of the space opera genre.)

The Belle of the Ball
Caught this on ON DEMAND. It was cool. Mostly a one woman and AI show. Katee Sackhoff always delivers. (she looked a bit raw- either for the film or not aging well :P) Plot line was interesting but I admit I really had to pay attention. Modern tv/films are so shallow I can read and watch them and not miss anything. not this movie.
