So far the little bits and pieces coming out about the Superman film coming in July are making me cautiously optimistic. for example:

Producer Peter Safran described the film's version of Superman as "the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way; he's kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned" - if true this fixes the single biggest flaw in the Snyderverse Superman. Superman needs to be an aspirational do-gooder or the character does not work.

Including characters like the Superdog Krypto is a nice touch and the casting for some of the other heroes like Green Lantern is spot on.

Also, it sounds like the film is on a 150 million dollar budget and no actual reshoots are planned. So that would put the likely breakeven box-office number around 500 million which is FAR more reasonable than (for example) the over 800 million Captain America 4 needs.

I am aware there is an outpouring of social media invective against the film but on closer examination it is virtually all from "Snyder Bros" who are still angry the Snyderverse was abandoned (for losing money) and that Henry Cavill is not Superman here (he's actually too old for the story being used). For me it is simple, put Superman back in character instead of the dark, brooding somewhat morally gray character Snyder gave us and the movie is immediately a success.

That's a thoughtful way to think about the new film. How do you feel about the actor who was cast for Superman? Besides the overall impression of him as being somewhat of a Beta (that's what I get out there), they open the trailer with him getting slammed to the ground or crashing into it, beat up and bleeding. This is what is causing the negative commentary about it. I think the replacing of Henry Cavill thing is not really a big deal. The tone of the film and this Superman's character will determine how well the film does IMO. I think audiences are much less connected to directors and producers than we think they are.

Showing Superman hurt without any context was probably not the best scene to use for a teaser. But this film is also doing well at not giving the plot away in previews (which encourages people to actually go and see it). There is also a preview where we see Superman saving peoples lives (like he should). I concur in that if they get the character right the film will get good word of mouth and do well.

I agree. The actor is not off-putting or extreme looking. He's like the guy next door. That's actually a great thing for Clark Kent, and he's an okay Superman. The suit looks okay too. If they tell us a good story and we recognize Superman in this character, it will do well. They have given nothing away, as you said, about the plot.
