I have mixed feelings about this one. Besides the laughter and head shaking I did while watching it, I could see what they were trying to do with the basic story. The things within the movie, beyond the absolutely horrible casting of Ice Cube as a government intelligence agent, were poorly done and the computer graphics and things they showed in the film were laughably over the top. I did like the fact that more recent versions of the original story remove the whole Mars aspect from it. I did NOT like the concept of the alien vehicles being buried here on earth long ago like it was in the Tom Cruise movie, but I thought the rest of that story was faithful to the original. This one brings the aliens here from space, but they are after our data? Okay, fine. But by nanobots? by "tentacles" that attach to the servers?

Yeah, this movie was bad! But, it was a creative take on the original story.

in Cruise's movie, the issue of the alien vehicles being buried so long ago reminds of how so much from our planet has disappeared; or how some creatures can 'sleep' and come back to life after so long a period of time

how certain fish and amphibs do in Australia; buried in the dirt until it rains again

or how certain very small creatures survived massive world level extinction events by living underground for millennia, generation after generation

but yeah, i prefer the straight out 'they're invading' approach- though i do not like how in so many recent movies/shows the supposedly intelligent aliens are creatures that do not even wear clothes - so how did they design and build/operate advanced interstellar craft? :)

there is a streaming war of the worlds, which i think is long over now. set in france and england. i never finished watching it (yet)
