Don't pop the corn just yet because Season 3 may take a while. Starting on July 8th, in Toronto, if my favourite photo-blogger is to be believed.

I have a good source that says that the show might not get a Season 3 at all.

EDIT: Damn.....

Ahhh...now it makes sense:

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019...newed-for-season-three-adds-a-new-showrunner/

Star Trek: Discovery has been renewed for a third season, Variety reports. Additionally, there will be a small shift in the show's leadership. Current writer and producer Michelle Paradise will be promoted to co-executive producer, running the show alongside Alex Kurtzman.

In a statement, Kurtzman hyped Paradise's credentials:

Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of Trek. Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive, and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the Trek legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I'm proud to say Michelle and I are officially running Star Trek: Discovery together.

Kurtzman took over the show during season two after the previous showrunners departed amidst some workplace controversy. He previously co-wrote the 2009 Star Trek movie reboot directed by J.J. Abrams. Before that, he was a writer and producer on Alias, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess, Fringe, and a number of CBS broadcast procedurals like Hawaii Five-0, Limitless, and Scorpion. Paradise previously created the MTV series Exes & Ohs, worked as a writer on CW series Hart of Dixie, and was an executive producer for The Originals, also on the CW

Kurtzman will not be driving anymore. :). CBS is determined to hold on to Star Trek from Bad Robot, but they know Kurtzman is not up to the task. I don't think Paradise is up to it either, given her resume.

TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, ENT, all movies up to ST:11 = canon timeline (real Star Trek)

STD, Star Trek 2009, Into Darkness, Beyond = Prime timeline (fake Kelvin Star Trek)

has that been announced officially on ST:D status or is it opinion?

Then why did they renew it?

who is the largest age demo watching it?

i am betting that millennial are eating it up... the target audience.. why we older sci fi fans just get little to nothing in the form of what we like

So, it got a Season 3. But not because it was doing so well, it was because Kurtzman has a contract. He is handing over direction to this new chick, and she will undoubtedly make it worse. Does a dog turd on a doily become more appetizing if left out another day? :). Let them run another season. So what?

well, someone is watching it, maybe not in large numbers

so who are those "someones"?

as i said, i am betting millennials

The show has dismal viewership. The subscriptions are being driven by sporting events, not STD. But also in place is the 5 year contract Kurtzman made with CBS while Moonves was still on board. The choices would be to buy Kurtzman out (and lose the sets, characters and designs from the Bad Robot/Secret Hideout production company), or to just let him do his Star Trek until the contract runs out or is nullified by a merger between Viacom and CBS. I did not expect them to do a Season 3. But because they have, there will be plenty of fodder for discussion. :)

About to watch the latest episode. Wanna make a prediction right now about the red angel.

I bet it'll turn out to be Michael Burnham.

She has to teach him to pee standing up, show him how to do his bangs on his emo haircut, and put sunscreen on his ears first.

Just remember the basic tenet of STD - Michael Burnham is God. Everything else flows from that.

She is so powerful that she gave birth to the Q, and she personally performed the Big Bang. :rolleye0014:

Interesting stuff from Doomcock about the Season 3 "renewal":

I liked the "If memory serves" episode. Wasn't bothered by any part of it. If I had to pick something to bitch on, it would be the inclusion of excerpts from the original series at the very beginning of the episode. That felt weird. They did serve to provide a small bit of back story though to explain how this episode related to the old TOS episode. Anyway, I'm sure there'll be tons of arguments about how every little piece of the episode is shit. Whatever.

std focuses too much on the characters and not enough on the story

of course, this is entirely based on my extremely limited exposure to it through ads and yt vids

TOS and TNG , voyager, etc.. they all had character stories but they were all subservient to the overall story of the "mission". i don't get a sense of any mission in std
