For now, he's insisting that what he's being charged with (and what the cops observed) didn't happen.

I'm reminded of the politicos who were caught during the AbScam fiasco, years ago. I lost count of how many people claimed they were running their own sting/investigation when their shady dealings were revealed to the public at large.

You may be onto something here. Fred could have been tugging at the industry shackles that bind him and was there to see if he could rent the theater for his one-man production of Hamlet. It certainly seems to me that he is interested in pounding the boards as it were (like any good Shakespearian actor). He probably just wanted to jerk his career from the doldrums. Hopefully he'll be able to beat this rap and get back to business.
