UK: Stargazing Live (next 3 nights) For those interested in astronomy

No, sadly this isn't a recap on SGU's swirling colour effects, that an avid SGU fan is interested in. This is actual astronomy.

They're debunking some Hollywood lies (no mention of Stargate but loads of Star Trek and Star Wars) but looks interesting.

I've always enjoyed Professor Brian Cox's style of presenting, he's young relatively speaking for a Professor, he's 42 and is enthusiastic about astronomy and physics.

It is indeed UK only.
I am currently trying to find a UK proxy server that will allow me to view the video.
If I find any I will let you guys know.

I give up.
Have tried dosens of sites.
Even tried a VPN.
None of it seems to work.
But then again I don´t have much experience with these matters.
Perhaps someone more experienced can find a way to view the file?

Wanted to see the partial solar eclipse this morning, no joy, it was overcast here.

Learnt something interesting, the star Betelgeuse aka Alpha Orionis is believe to go supernova soon (i.e. within our lifetime), and base on wiki, apparently the supernova would outshine the moon at night and still be seen in broad daylight, thanks to its close distance, being 640 light years away and its large size.

I would love to see that bright point in the sky and of course, images of the supernova would probably look spectacular.

It might also turn out to be spectacularly dangerous.

So is a massive coronal mass ejection, could destroy all of Earth's electrical grid, will send us back to the middle ages, as Discovery keeps pointing out in some of their documentaries. :P

Coincidentally I just finished watching the Atlantis episode with the coronal mass ejection about 2 minutes ago.

I can see why a proxy would not work, but a VPN should. There is nothing in the VPN tunnel which could be intercepted or blocked. Are you sure it was a REAL VPN (ie: connected to a physical network in the UK).

I downloaded FreeVPN but I couldn't get it to connect to a UK server.
Don't have a lot of understanding where networking is concerned.
Perhaps you could give me a few pointers.
Maybe an IP I could use.

For those people interested that couldn't see the stargazing thing live on BBC, the first episode is now available for download on the EZTV website in both normal and high resolution. It is likely the other episodes will follow shortly.
