The Mysterious Hum??

So on BBC News, there is an article that talks about various locations around the world that features this low humming noise, that only those with sensitive ears can hear. Sometimes, it is so loud that it drowns out other sounds, while those with less sensitive ears can't hear it.

Has anyone heard of this? Or heard of this hum?

People claim it's aliens from outer space, demons, mental illness, ear disorder, etc. Personally speaking, I have not heard of this hum. Sure if I remain quiet and everything is switched off, then I've heard the eerie silence accompanied with a slight recurring high pitch but ultra-low barely noticeable volume sound that seems to be in the background like a whine (trust me it's not Tinnitus but could be electricity or more likely a spontaneous otoacoustic emission). However, what I experienced don't sound anything like the alleged "mysterious hum".

I don't hear anything in the sound file. Do you have a link to the article?

Think it might be a hoax or there probably is a more rational explanation, like some people have more receptive hearing capability in the high frequency range, and are hearing some things that is common to all of them.

Here's a link. There are 2 sound files at the bottom of the page.

(Warning: website looks like something from 1995, lol)

Based on the sound files, I wouldn't be surprised if it was coming from an aging refrigerator, SciphonicStranger, lol. Cos it sounds like one. Though what could be causing it? An overpass from an alien spaceship in cloak? The Earth's crust ultra-vibrating? A slow moving wind moving along a confined aperture?

Maybe we're all living in a controlled environment, made to look like a world, under observation by an alien species. We think we have free run of the planet but it could be just an illusion and there is no "planet" on which we move about freely. Maybe you and those immediately surrounding you are all there is and the net & this forum are nothing but a load of badly written AIs and contrived content meant to make you feel like there are others around the "world".

Maybe I'm just home sick and need to get back to my palm tree paradise before I go insane. :icon_lol:
