I have just watched this movie & I have to ask.............. what was the point of it all? This movie was, from the trailer, meant to be an awesome sci-fi monster epic/apocalypse movie but it ended up being a terrible, monster b-movie filled with loads of irritatingly-stupid, hip, street characters (who all seemed to have shed-loads of dosh & drove Ferraris) & made epically dumb-ass decisions that only people in horror movies make.

At the end of this movie, I was glad that everybody was dead but I was left pissed off with the unfeasible "the human spirit with conquer all" bit at the end. Oh, did I mention this movie sucked ass?

Your thoughts on this movie positive or negative please.

I am very open-minded & my tastes in movies & TV shows are wide & varied but not to this kind of degree. Seriously, this was Monster Movie 90210 - The Stupid Cut.

The movie was directed by the two brothers who did Aliens versus Predator: Requiem, former FX specialists they are good at that, you do see some interesting battles between the aliens and the US Military, especially for the budget they had (which was very small). However, the movie Cloverfield has set a standard form here, meaning whenever you involve aliens/monsters the story is never focused on people like the military or the government instead you focus on the every day to day person or in this movie case, these insipid morons.

Someone somewhere someday will eventually place the battle scenes on youtube, save yourself money from either a rental or purchase, and upon reflection most of the battle scenes are shown in the trailer.

Like I said, the battles looked mint from the trailer & the trailer itself looked just pure awesome but the film was simply filled with insufferable fuckwits which is the bit which really narked me off. How could anybody possibly watch this movie & feel anything for these characters but total apathy? It's not like watching an episode of the original V & rooting for the rebels in their fight against the V's.............. at least with that show, you knew the characters & could empathise with them.

Is it just me or has science fiction gone to the path of 'slasher horror movies' if you've seen any of these then you'll know where I am going with this. To those who don't, basically put, it is when you are rooting for the killer to bump off all of these twats from existence simply for existing as twats. Skyline has the same feel, I wanted the aliens to win (and thankfully they did) because if this was the point of view we'd see humanity become extinct from I say, I welcome our new alien overlords. The movie had potential but once again, the creators took the 'what is currently popular in media' idea (for example seeing a bunch of rich kids who haven't actually deservedly earn that money) place an alien invasion.

This movie was The Hills meets Independence Day/War Of The Worlds.

Yeah, basically a poor mishmash of every 'aliens invade Earth' movie ever made. I didn't hate it, but I would not recommend seeing it in the theater. Wait for the DVD release, lol.

You know when people say 'movies/shows have so little substance its paper thin' I think it has now become literal, one look at the poster or DVD cover and you've seen the movie. Must say great savings there actually.

Robbie, where have you been for the last 2 decades? 99% of everything made since then has been coughed up by some half backed, writing school dropout and some coke fried, demographic driven hack. Honestly, my cat can crap out better formed plots than these twits.

Movie studios realized in the mid 90's (from such successes as T2), that pure eye-candy, gratuitous explosions, and romantic comedies with stars (Pretty Woman), will guarantee bums in theater seats, and will cover any shortcoming plot wise. Fast forward 2 decades, and we've got studio execs that have been raised on this garbage, and just want to produce movies featuring T&A, 'splosions, eye-candy and stars as it's an assured income. In other words Micheal Behn excrement and some romantic comedy with a washed up, but hot singer.

Foreign and Indy films are really the only 'real' type of movie making left, and although some suffer from trying to be too much like Hollywood, others have rejected that mass produced garbage behind, and actually produce decent movies. That being said, occasionally a really monumental movie is created and usually is ignored by the general lemming public for some flashy, eye candy fluff. They're hard to find, but they are far more satisfying, and usually take pride of place in my small blue-ray collection.

I tend to think of Hollywood as the McDonalds of the movie world; all flashy and smooth marketing , mass produced and over refined into something that resembles food, but in reality just pureed cow anuses, for all the mindless morons and unwashed spawn that like it no other way.

OMG...the new face of B-Movies: Skyline

I have just watched this movie & I have to ask.............. what was the point of it all? Oh my. I am so glad I didnt waste my money on this movie in the theaters! I did like the special effects, a LOT. I also thought the actresses and actors were specifically chosen for their physical attractiveness, and the locale is actually very very local for me. Its the new Azzurra high rise luxury condos in Marina Del Rey (see here: http://www.azzurra-delrey.com/). Ill tell you what, the place they chose is definitely exactly as pictured in the movie, but those type of people arent the ones who live there. Its basically 40 and older, lots of Asians living in that building and none as main characters? LOL.

Anyhoo, the premise of the movie sucks, as well as the strictly B-Movie plot. You have a bunch of pretty, sexy young people running from mysterious aliens hellbent on eating/absorbing/killing them. Why, I dont know. To watch this stupid movie, you would think these aliens came billions of light years JUST to get these young people and nothing else. Stricly a formulaic movie aimed at the 90210/Melrose Place/SGU/Teen Soap crowd. Dumbed down entertainment for sheeple.

Rarely do movies like this one make any real sense. They had quite literally high-rise building sized advertisements for Skyline during ComicCon. Didn't do anything to encourage me to see it.

Watching Hollywood come out with what they hope will be the next great movie is, in its own way, quite amusing. I'm bad enough to laugh when I see how little money they pull in at the box office. Most seem to be failures.

My dream is that the people who got the money to produce these stinkers will never get the money to ever again make another movie.

After watching this movie (against my will) a second time, I came to the horrid realization that the makers of this movie wanted to leave it open...for a SEQUEL!. The movie totally sucked. TOTALLY. A bunch of two dimensional characters similar to all the "instant" characters we see in Stargate Universe and 90210 and other vapid formulaic creations. Of course, there is a Chloe-like character, a Scott-like character, an older rebel and a "cause". And of course plenty of CGI.

When will this shit come to an end? Is this generation of young people really that dumb? Are they THAT easily satisfied?

I just talked with a friend of mine who is a comic book geek, in fact he works at a comic book store. We were both lamenting the new "Green Hornet" movie coming out. Seth Rogan as the Green Hornet? It looks terrible! Why can't they make a movie that is actually worth watching instead of just CGI, stupid wisecracks and storylines that have nothing in common with the originals?

There is a VERY good reason why I only go to the movies 2-3 times a year......
Shit, I have heaps of DVD's, but these days it's far cheaper (and easier) to buy a shithouse movie to satisfy my curiosity than to arrange babysitters so my wife and I can go to the movies.

We have a whole generation of "writers" who lack imagination.

Its as though everything is "dark", the central story is a distorted take on "boy meets girl, girl gets put in danger, boy saves girl, boy gets girl, repeat". It doesnt have to be believable, and the characters dont have to be deep or interesting, they just have to be young, pretty and hip. They also have to be balanced out with older but hip characters who are supposed to represent the sane parent of the situation. And the story doesnt even have to exist. As long as the CGI is good enough, thats all that matters. To these viewers, all of this is a-ok.

Hollywood seems to be doing too many remakes and re imaginings. I think the creative well is down to a trickle. One of the reasons is the entrenched writers. Because of the Writers Guild, some of the most creative writers never get a chance because they cant afford the fees or the representation. How does a film like this get backing from investors? No wonder Brad thought he had a winner with SGU!
