SyFy Names Stargate Universe Replacement!

Syfy Channel announced today that it has greenlit Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, a backdoor pilot for a potential third BSG series. The show would chronicle the adventures of a young William Adama during the later years of the first Cylon War.
The network originally ordered the script for Blood & Chrome as a limited-run series of webisodes, but liked Michael Taylor’s script so much that it is sending it straight to television as a 2-hour movie event. The backdoor pilot could then turn into a full-fledged series, if Syfy likes what it sees.
Production should begin in Vancouver, British Columbia early next year. The show could be ready to premiere as early as Fall 2011, though TV Squad suggests after talking with Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming, that if it is picked up for a full series a 2012 debut is more likely.
Probably to replace SG poo but looking forward to it :)

They might aswell just officially announce that Caprica is cancelled.

I kinda hoped that Caprica would lead towards the beginning of the first Cylon war but that's looking unlikely now. A series made during it if done right would be interesting to see.

To be Honest, I haven't seen any Caprica, so I can't really comment on it. If however it wasn't so expensive to make (from what I've heard) it might survive (same with SGU). If Caprica can hang on however till this new one comes out, a paired block of Caprica and this new one might work well togeather. I don't know the ratings for this, but in Oz friday night Scifi consists of SGA/SGU/SG-1 and it is entertaining enough as a block to watch all three. As I said on GW though, I really think SGU if it has a chance to survive should be played in a 3 hour block of DS9, SGU and B5.

Caprica is more sci-fi than SG poo! The acting is better(exceptional at times), there is a little bit of mystery and it doesn't end in musical montage(the indie rock shit). It is more drama but it is sci-fi. It's more clever than SGU ever could be. It's a shame it's doing so shit in the ratings.

Do you reckon this also applies to a sci-fi series you know off ;). Got a hit it has universe in it.

Soap-Fi is Over!!!

"Mark Stern, Syfy’s executive vice president of original programming described the series as “very much an action-adventure, war series.”

This could be good news for the stargate franchise in that Syfy has not given up on the BSG franchise but will likely replace the soap-fi Caprica with an action adventure series (BSG: Blood and Chrome).

So if SGU gets cancelled we might get another action adventure version of Stargate or Syfy could fully fund an Atlantis or SG-1 tv-movie. (Extinction and Revolutions)

This is sort of beside the point, but People's Choice Awards (one that SGA had won back in its day), has a list of sci-fi shows one can vote for/nominate. Caprica is one of them. SGU is not on that list.

I haven't seen one epi of Caprica, but that BSG: Blood & Chrome sounds interesting. :beckettu:

Going to go OT here for a minute on this point:
Why the fuck is there so much distain towards Syfy having the Wrestling on?? Getting the backing of a franchise as huge as the WWE is a massive coup for them. I mean, sure it's not Sci-fi, but the channel is a business for fucks sake, and if people want to see Syfy fund better than crap B grade movies, it needs stuff like the WWE to get it revenue. I mean, if you don't like it, don't watch it sure (I'm pretty fucking confidant that it will get ratings no matter what) If people want to see Syfy spring for SG-1/SGA movies, the channel needs to make some comprimises, weather you want them or not and I for one would rather see the channel survive after a few understandable comprimises than loose a channel that does play alot stuff that I do enjoy. (even if I own enough stuff to basicly run the channel out of my DVD collection)

Sorry about that, but it's been bugging me for some time both here and on GW.

Blood and Chrome is the BSG prequel a lot of people have been waiting for. If they manage to tone down the religious stuff and come up with some engaging plots and great battles, they'll have surefire hit.

I called it months ago. BSG still has tons of life to it, while SGU is the nail in teh coffin of SG.

AT least SG might come back later as a zombie though.

Yes its does sound interesting. I also note the lack of these terms this time, Gritty, dark, character driven and are replaced with action and adventure and war series. A bit like they had with the succesful SGA then?

@Gatefan. yep i can see why they need shows like Wrestling to prop up there revenue. they would not get as much stick for it I think, if they had some more realy good scifi on there to balance it out. I bet if Blood & Chrome (which i think is a cool name) does well and spawns more such scifi the grumblings will cease.
