If he was posting on GW, I'd gurantee you he'd be modded or banned.
ummm, no. He would be cited as a source on a GW frontpage article for season 3 promotion. lol
That's it, I'm gonna make it my mission to read all Cthulhu related stories this weekend.
Good luck buddy, there are heaps of them
To make it easier, check out these Authors:
Lovecraft (obviously)
August Derleth
Stephen King
Brian Lumley
Robert E Howard
And thats just the "main guts" of the Cthulu mythos, there are plenty more short stories and anthologies to explore!!
(check out the tombstone )
Ugh Stephen King! Finding his Cthulu mythos story(ies) could be a needle in a haystack sort of thing. So much crap to wade thru to find a gem. Hopefully it's in an anthology.
Enjoying Steve's works is purely a matter of knowing WHY he writes and what he admits to. He says himself he is the "Mills and Boon" of the genre. Sure alot (especially since his accident) has been utter dross, but you are talking about a guy who admits it is, and under those conditions, I find it hard to rag on the guy too much. It's like them saying "Avatar has no substance, is a ripped of concept and is pure eye candy" BEFORE you go into the cinema and part with you hard earned dollars.
The guy has been phoning it in since "Pet Semetary". I know he went thru a bunch of ups and downs, was an alcoholic and was run over and all that, but that can't fully explain the discrepancies in his various books. I know he denies ever having a ghost writer but something hinky has gone on with that guy's career. Compare "Needful Things" to "Insomnia" and it's like they're written by two different people. It's just weird.
Plus much of his later stuff is just pure crap. Ugh! :puke: There's literally too much to list right now, suffice to say he's a mess.
Yep, was an alcoholic, was a heroin addict, was a speed addict, almost lost his family over it............
Early SK has a very "visceral" feel to it, newer stuff, not so much, it's more psyche based, but after the accident, yeah, even I can't defend some of that crap.
My, what a sexy fella!
That post does certainly make a good point.
Does SGU truly fulfil science? In this day and age, science is cool. Without science we wouldn't have tech gadgets, etc, and people like to know how things work, it's in our human nature.
At times, I feel SGU treat science as pointless, something that is considered a waste of time therefore, no need to show and explain - like how the solar scoops actually take in solar energy without the intense radiation and energy from entirely destroying the scoops and, destroying half the ship? How does the ship transfer and deliver energy? What type of conduits does it use? Why does the Destiny Stargate emit a blast of CO2 when the gate shuts off? How does their "FTL Drive" work?
All good questions, but no answers. Instead, I feel SGU has this policy of "show and accept it", and then to show a few colours in HD to offset the science they have neglected.
I love the Cthulhu references...
Does anyone know if anyone's still selling plushy Cthulhu? I've always wanted one.
