Do the people at MGM ever read any type of Fansites? Like th forums and blogs online? Does anyone think that they can see the fans want BW out and then maybe then the franchise will make them lots of money again?

Forums don't equal the public at large, very rarely will they give an accurate assessment of what the public is into. To be fair fan forums rarely give a proper view of anything. The vast majority of people don't even know (or care) who he is. And for that matter the people at MGM know him better than any of us do - in that they've actually met him.

Depending on the issue, sometimes production companies do read fan sites, to find what the general feeling is of the fandom and sometimes, for a quick laugh.

Back in the day, I stated what CBS had to do about ENT and ST as a whole, on Startrek.com message boards and just wrote how the situation was and what was needed to be done to get Star Trek on the map again. They followed my suggestion to the letter so far, so I know MGM reads forums, as long as people take into account current economic situation, cost, profit, fans and viewers' reasonable expectations and constructive criticisms which can be translated onto achievable targets.

I'd wager its only the creative staff that will peruse a few forums in their time - and that's only to see how some of the in show creative decisions are coming along. If any MGM executive has time to read a forum like this, they probably aren't working very hard.

At the top, they don't work hard, they don't have to. They got their slaves, I mean minions to do their work via delegation. But it won't be the MGM Exec that will be reading the forums, but more like R&D teams.

You never know that could have been the route of all there problems, to much time spent on fan forums :)

On a serious note. Hasnt it already been confirmed that a person/s was hired to big up bsg on fan forums? im trying to remember whether it was a marketing thing or something different, does anyone remember reading about that? im sure i didnt make it up.
Its also been confirmed that the actors and producers read the fan forums, so theres bound to be talk from what they have seen passed on in meetings even if unintentianal.
Im not saying what they hear or read what persuade a big wig to change there mind about a tv show, but they would be pretty foolish to ignore the internet as a source to gage how there shows have and will be recived.

I am pretty sure their PR depts and marketing have minions hired to see what is being said about their "product" and yes, that would include visiting fan forums!

Yep
Fan forums are free market research for companies. There are probably people that gather the numbers of people who like X or don't like X, comparing numbers of each against a total pool of combined fans across multiple fansites and extrapolating results.

Aye, social media is the way forward and is a major research material source. They would be fools not to use forums. It saves them money, so instead of getting a plonker standing out with a survey clipped onto the board asking random people what MGM show they watched, instead they can search and see for themselves what is hot and what isn't.

If it's good, people will talk, if it's crap, people will bitch.

I think fan forums hold more weight than people think. I was able to predict the ratings based on forum/site traffic on Syfy.com. I also saw a lot of positive feedback towards SGA in Season 4 and 5, and hence the ratings went up. Syfy.com was like 99% pro SGA, and about 75% Anti SGU, lol, no wonder some people call Syfy.com a troll site,

Just like the ratings, it is a sample taken out of an entire potential viewing nation.

Exactly!
It's why I never got the whole "fans arn't worth anything" spiels you see on GW.

Yeah, a long time ago, lol.

We have them here, it's always about beverages. What soft drink do you drink? What alcoholic beverage do you drink? I usually shoo them away.

You know you really shouldn't do that. To this day I still do every survey I get asked to do provided I have the time to do them. I used to do Door to Door market research, and it's a hard way to make a crust. I will say however that at times it was a very fun job to do, simply for some of the people you meet.

GW and Syfy used to be filled with posts/threads and traffic when SG-1 and SGA were airing. We used to have hundreds of members and guests lurking. As the forum traffic went down, so did the ratings in almost every country. Coincidence? "I don't think so" lol.

I like certain surveys, I have been doing the TVguide team surveys and erewards surveys for about a year. I like thinking somebody will care about what I think.

Oh I know they get paid for having surveys filled, however there are only so much - "I drink Coca-Cola" or "Yes I think Harp (Lager) is alright".
