I rather enjoyed this episode actually. It wasn't as good as the previous one, but it was a pretty fun ride. Though I was pretty surprised at what the Doctor did to Solomon in the end, since he's been so opposed to violence and killing over the years. I do like the parts where they clearly show that the Ponds are starting to really drift apart from the Doctor as the get older and more mature, and it feels natural to be honest. The Doctor is just a big kid really, while they have to worry about everyday stuff like work and bills, and then suddenly he just pops up out of the blue and takes them on an adventure. Also, it was pretty cool to see two Harry Potter actors in this (Mr. Weasley as Rory's dad, and Mr. Filch as Solomon).

I thought this episode was brilliant; a fun adventure with a load of genuinely funny moments. At a push I'd say last weeks was better but this episode was going for something a bit less serious and was thoroughly enjoyable. I think the 'condensed, movie style' storytelling has really paid off and if the next 3 episodes keep the same quality this could be the best series of Doctor Who yet.

Also is it just me or does this series seem a hell of a lot more expensive than previous years? I'd imagine the budget is considerably less than most U.S. shows yet it manages to look a good deal better.

I actually thought this episode was weak tbh. Running around being chased by dinosaurs and confronting a pirate. What use was having the explorer, Rory and Amy tagging along? Pointless imo. Hope next week's episode is much better.

Also dislike the latest opening title sequence as well.

I've been waiting forever for someone to see things the way I do regarding this show. :biggrin-new: The Rory and Amy comment was perfect (and so true!)! God, can they please get rid of those two wet blankets, ugh!

Amy and Rory have four episodes left. They are gone after that.

Really they had their time and did some good things (The Doctors Wife was especially well done) but it is time to move on.

But they needed Rory and his dad to pilot that ship, which, for some completely unexplainable reason, needs two pilots with matching genes. :D

I finally caught this one today. I thought it was light and fun - it sort of seems like a running joke that the Ponds are still in every episode now. I thought Rory's dad was great - the enemy of the week, not so much. And never forget, dinos make everything better. :beckett_new049:

Exactly. Light and fun and everyone knows the Ponds will be gone in four more episodes.

Um, there were some incredibly bad episodes in those eras too.

Remember "The Horns of Nimon"? Or "The Curse of Peladon"?

I find myself agreeing with Joelist here. The reboot was a good thing IMO. I don't think it has hurt classic Dr Who at all.

Yeah, good ol' Nimon. That episode actually made me laugh. :D

Sure, that era had a lot of corn but there were tons of really good stories.

I wasn't implying it did. It's just that, when I see these "feel good" child-friendly episodes, it gets to me and I get nostalgic for how classic Dr Who was more sci-fi mixed with gothic horror. I like Matt Smith but I think they're going too far in the "Absent Minded Professor" direction. All he's missing is flubber and a troop of laughing children. The Eckleston and Tennant stories were less flubber.
