We will be provided with our exact property lines, and a fence will exist for whatever is not ours. This way, I won't encroach upon anyone's land and they can all keep the FracK off our ours.
Good Fences make good neighbors, and I want to keep it that way.

There is already a fence on the land, we will just have to add a new part closer to our house on one side.

will you at least be out of the city?

i just watched this show on ACORN. set in Northern Ireland, some great looking rural areas in the Mourne MTNS, though they could do with more trees :)

Well, we're not quite there yet. We had a third party do an inspection on the house and they found some concerning things. Now we're waiting to receive the report. Then the seller needs to have an expert come in and see what costs would be involved in fixing all of that. Then we'll see how things go.

i hope it far away from this kind of religious horseshit that killed so many... article states as of 2020 there are still over 100 "peace walls" dividing protestant from catholic neighborhoods

I would be willing to look at those out of town locations, in fact I advocated for it, but the wife doesn't want it. Who knows, if this deal falls through, we might be able to revisit the idea.

The house we're going for right now is a detached home which means no sharing walls with a neighbor, which is already a big step up for us compared to our current situation. On the one side of the house, there is a garage, then next to that another garage, and next to that is the next house, so that's a fair distance apart in an urban environment. On the other side, there is a strip of free space in this house's garden (this might be a bit of the disputed part, but we still don't have clarity on that), then there's a foot path leading down the hill, then there's another free strip of the next house's garden and then the next house. Across the street there is I think one house with a bit of a driveway, so that's not very close either. And at the back there is just a downhill slope with some trees in the valley, so no neighbors there. Within a city, I don't think you could get a much better location than something like that.

I've made some screenshots from Google Maps at various zoom levels to try to illustrate a bit.

And yes, it is removed from that bullshit and there are no peace walls in the neighborhood that I'm aware of.

There are none at all, it is a very mixed area ( that is what it is called here and has nothing to do with race ). The same cannot be said of those "good deal" areas and places out in the countryside. They are very much divided in most of Northern Ireland except for certain parts of Belfast like this. The area where this house is, was safe even during the worst of the troubles. I don't mind the neighbor on one side, that is what they make fences for! In a perfect world we would be living in the land of USA where buying a house is a thousand times easier due to the sheer level of supply and demand. We have very little to choose from over here.

It might not look like it, but this area is considered fairly posh. My boss and her boss both live in this part of the city outskirts.

We really don't want a huge piece of land that would take a ton of work to keep up. This is big enough for me at this point in life.
The back yard is a ravine, no neighbor will be encroaching near the property lines.

It will all be a moot point if the seller does not agree to reclassify the property lines, and pay for the timber specialists and any needed repairs. If it is active infestation of any kind, I think I won't take it until this is sorted by certified professional and cleared of any future issue.

If the house falls through, one part of me is starting to think about talking to my boss about working remote from another country and picking another country in Europe to move too. The US is still not something I want to deal with since I am not allowed to even apply too bring him over till after half a year or more of living back in US on my own. I would also consider Canada but it would depend on the cost of living there and how well my Belfast pay scale would translate to living there. I am not living in a dreamland on that idea either, my work has already stated this will be a possibility soon for most workers.

Disney is killing me with these 6 episode seasons. How many years has it been since it was announced (or there were at least rumors) that there would be a show about Loki? Six bloody episodes is all they're giving us. Only six episodes for Captain America and the Winter Soldier too. It's akin to torture. Give someone just enough of something to develop a taste for it and then cut them off cold turkey.

yeeah, american companies think they can pull off the 'mini series' type thing AS THE series. Like they do in England and Australia

problem for them is- those shows places like ITV and the BBC make are much longer per episode and much better then most of what america makes

thought-- could you imagine if any american 'mini' series show was made with the quality and value of say, Midsomer Murders? 1hr 45 min episodes for the likes of Mandalorian or Loki-- oh the stories they could tell

and yes, i am watching MIDSOMER now, hence my reference--- 4 seasons down, 17 more to go!

For a moment there I thought you meant Midsummer - a horrible film. Midsomer is actually interesting.

I haven't been watching much lately in regard to TV shows and especially movies. Since we got a PS5 in our house (my very first console in my life) I've been spending quite a bit of time playing with that instead. I've always been a gamer really, since I was 6 years old. Things have of course changed a lot since then. Anyway, this will explain the fact I haven't been posting much about TV shows and movies. I just posted two threads about games. I hope they'll be of interest to at least one person here, or perhaps to someone visiting.

Play those games! They are a lot more fun and a lot less stressful than what's on TV and in film these days. I have been doing that too. Playing fun games (not shooters), getting out on my bike, trying to take in some beauty. I am glad you got your console!
