Promising New Show on Hulu: Ark

I was surfing around in Hulu, and I came across the most interesting science fiction show which is being shopped right now. Its called Ark: The Series. It reminds me of a combination of Starlost with the dark/gritty feel of Aliens/2001 A Space Odyssey/Battlestar. INTERESTING! Right now, the series consists of nine 4 minute long "episodes" which equals about 30 minutes of viewing. Its done VERY well, and is worth a half hour of viewing.

It really IRKS me that there is so much good science fiction waiting to be greenlighted, whilst utter garbage like Stargate Universe continues to get fed and nurtured when it should be off the air. Take a look at this series of 9 episodes, and realize that they are each only FOUR MINUTES LONG. All 9 mini episodes add up to about 30 minutes of viewing. I would totally get into a show like this. :)

For convenience, I have embedded them here:

I keep hearing this elsewhere as well. Where are you that blocks Hulu? Perhaps I can find an alternate for you.

Yes, Im sure I would love to visit there. Before Im gone from this planet, I want my feet to touch upon every continent at least once. :)

But, I have an easy solution for you. I only needed to know where you were. There are many ways to get Hulu even if you are in Australia. But you need to be surfing with a US metwork address, which you can get by using a proxy or a free VPN service. If you are a geek, it will be easy. If not, you need step by step instructions. PM me if interested. :)

Why, Overmind? WHY?

Why would you point me to this show, when it appears that it's not going anywhere?!! That's something I'd expect from a cad and scoundrel like Mallozzi. But you? Just evil and wicked!!!

I read on a few sites that 60 frames went out of business, and I cannot find anything indicating that anyone is interested in picking this up as a series. And then came the stake through the heart. This is from an interview I found here: http://news.tubefilter.tv/2010/07/26/ark-hits-hulu-sci-fi-gem-rolls-out-all-at-once/

O’Connor: I am thrilled Ark is out there now!!! It started as the micro show on the abandoned Firefly set, and a lot of heart went into finishing it.

Why?!?!? Oh the pain! So I sit here and waste my time on a show that CLEARLY should be on the SciFi channel (HELLLLLOOOOOOO SCIFI CHANNEL!!! POINTING AT YOOOOUUUU!!!), I get to see Gabrielle once more and reminisce on how much fun Xena was, and then in my zesty search for more Ark, am reminded of the early demise of Firefly. And the cherry: No more Ark. What the hell?

Why can't a show like this get at LEAST get a 6 episode run? It took 40 minutes to vest my interest in a show that had a total of 4 actors! That used an abandoned set for Christ sakes!!! How much cheaper does it have to be? Why are untrained, wild monkeys running the SCIFI channel, I guess is the question that I should be asking?

Overmind, if you are going to continue to suggest SciFi shows from now on, please suggest stupid ones that I will have no problem dismissing once the deed is done. This was truly a mean thing for you to do.

I just watched them - quite good, I thought. That's how one does dark & gritty, with sides of suspense/horror and mystery. SGU is nowhere close to this quality. Too bad there aren't more episodes.

60Frames went out of business? Who has the rights to this show then, I wonder? This could be a GREAT show. A huge ark ship whose sheer size alone allows for slick earth-type scenarios under those domes, and the occasional corridor and wrecked control room scenes to remind us we are on a huge spaceship. Or, perhaps the occasional overhead shot which shows the latticework overhead?

It blows my mind that those sets were from Firefly! There is no way I could have known, and yet the appeal of the sets was there anyway! The lighting in this show is darker than Firefly, but not as dark as SGU. If there are any science fiction fans left at Syfy, why arent they able to see what works and what wont? Amanda Tapping knew what she was doing when she did Sanctuary. This Ark show could be HUGE if they would only pay attention to it. Perhaps it will be done anyway?

Aw, Im sorry! I wish I knew more about it, but surfing around on Hulu is an adventure. After taking in those 9 episodes, I had to come here immediately and share them! It really makes you wonder...who is it that decides to cancel shows like Firefly and Atlantis, and leave great potential shows like Ark in the queue? Why are they wasting so much time and effort trying to create a new science-fiction/drama genre that obviously has a weak audience of only about a million viewers? BSG did it as a one-off, but it should hardly have been seen as a trendsetter. Every show which has followed its so-called "trend" had failed in the ratings and been cancelled. Caprica and SGU are the only two left.

Stuff your sorry's in a sack, buddy! Three episodes in of Starhunter streamed from Netflix this afternoon and I thought, "Damn! Overmind did it again!!!!"

I am FAR from the person who picks up the torch and tries to save a show or gather petitions for anyone to take a second look at anything, but I, too, am curious as to who would hold the rights to this show. I mean, someone had to get it on Hulu? Are they actively shopping this anywhere? Curiousity is slowing eating away at my soul...

I think BSG was great in the begining because it focused more on the science fiction at the outset and when the religious drama began to creep in, I think people lost interest. I understand tv executives wanting to try and recreate lightning in a bottle, but how long does it take before they realize that it can't be done and it's time to move on?

It's sad that if not for your Hulu scavenger hunt, I would never have heard about this show, which appears to be 2 years old. And how many other people will never discover it? So much wasted talent. Disguisting when you really think about it since the investment compared with other shows would seem to be minimal.

How can they be so blind? Why dont they have at least ONE person at Syfy who still knows what science fiction is and then acts appropriately by PICKING UP THE DAMN SHOWS? Starhunter 2003 was a pleasant surprise, and to my delight, I see that there are at least 22 episodes available to watch. Here is what they say about the show on IMDb:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0340491/

That describes my experience exactly! I watched the entire first season, and liked it a lot. But then around the second half of season 2, it became soapy and religious and political and I lost interest. I briefly tuned in on season 4, and actually laughed out loud before abruptly changing the channel.

Now that there is so little real science fiction out there, Hulu has become like my own little "bargain bin" where I can sift through all sorts of stuff and find goodies buried underneath all the sponsored crap they scroll across the top of the Hulu interface. Check it out! They have some great B movies to watch too. :
