I usually like Pegg and Frost's work (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are great), but this one has a derisive and insulting tone towards Christians and Jews that I have no interest in. It's probably because this time they are working for a Hollywood director and studio instead of Edgar Wright, who they usually work with.

I can agree that weighting it against hot fuzz then it isnt particularly funny but it was still a worthy watch imo.
and as im an Atheist i couldnt find that funnier.

I'll probably wait and catch it on cable. I loved "SOTD" and "Hot Fuzz" but the trailers for "Paul" seem just sort of "meh" to me. I could be wrong so please no spoilers as I'd like to be surprised.

That's part of the problem - the "christian" character is a Hollywood caricature of a Christian. Plus neither Pegg nor Frost really feel like they are inhabiting their characters in this one. Add in Paul's insulting statements about Christians and Jews and I'll take a pass on this one.

Really Pegg and Frost need to work with Edgar Wright - he understands them the best and uses their talents to the best effect. Which is not a pan on either of them, sometimes a particular actor/actress works best with a particular director.
