No doctor will ever hold a candle to Tom Baker.

The rumor is that a high profile black actor was offered the role but turned it down. If this is true it would lend credence to my theory that either a black Doctor or a female one is just around the corner.

I liked Tennant at first but his Doctor became too EMO as the show went on, culminating in the godawful End of Time.

Is that his doctor, or the writing though?

I'm really not a fan of spontaneous sex change. Honestly, DW is really not the platform for gender equality statements by having equal gender rights to playing the main character.

A bkck DW I can understand since it's just a skin tone change, unless they stereotype him by going full ebonics, at which point I'd just turn the TV off.

Hmm, well we could get Bill Cosby for the role of the Doctor.

Maybe we can reunite the Huckstables and have them all travel together while teaching moral lessons. That should expedite the show's demise.

I completely agree but I've just gotten that vibe because Davies had such a politically correct bent. I know he's no longer heading up the show but you never know how much of that mindset still exists. Plus I think they're gonna try it with a woman at some point for the shock value and publicity.

That will probably lose the bulk of the show's loyal fans, myself included.

That rumor turned out (like most rumors) to be unfounded. Capaldi was candidate #1 from the start. Moffat also said in an interview that they wanted Capaldi as part of a desire to take the character of the doctr in a different direction than recently, hence the hope we get a quieter, less hyperactive Doctor.

I hope Capaldi takes the Doctor in a more Tom Baker direction.

Here is Capaldi in DW episode, The Fires Of Pompeii

So, what did I see at the end of the ep where the smith Dr was last seen? I could have sworn they introduced the new Dr at the end of that season ending ep?

Anyone have that ending clip?

The clip introduces John Hurt as the Doctor. So far it seems like this is an incarnation that existed between McGann and Eccleston and for some reason all memory of him was erased. We'll find out in a few weeks in the anniversary special.

I thought it was either him or Derek Jacobi. Wasn't sure of anything though as I was emerging from an afternoon nap :icon_razz:

So Smith is already done with the role completely? I missed most of last season but I just assumed he'd be around for one more.

An older actor eh !!! What about Sean Connery as the doctor . He's good with gadjets and probably pretty good at smacking aliens about :) :) :)

He regenerates at the end of the fiftieth anniversary special IIRC.
