Let's hope that some heads roll over this one and that a bunch of people get their jobs back.

Imagine expecting someone to just sit there and watch someone die because they're "out of their jurisdiction". Those are the rules, according to the Powers That Be in this bass-ackward place, I guess.

(The kid had a far more colorful response to what happened when I shared this with her)

There is a very simple rule that my employer beats into my head all the time. "Before you take action think to yourself - 'Would this make our company look bad if someone wrote a story about it in the press?'."

I think this should be standard procedure when training new employees.

Brilliant! :-)

In this case I say hit the swimmer with a fine for being a bonehead and give the lifeguard his job back and a raise for being a good human being.

If I were talking to the person who fired him I would say: A wise person once said "Who told you, you could take your brain out and play with it?" by Tammy Chance

But seriously what were they thinking. I had to laugh when Illiterati told me they took down there website in hopes folks wouldn't find there phone number. LOL It is the information age and there is such a thing as 411 as long as you know the city and offending company. I hope they learned their lesson but some how I doubt it.
I mean what is this world coming to when you get fired for saving a life?
