One nuclear power plant (Fukushima No. 1 power plant) is on fire, firefighters experiencing problems getting water to extinguish the flames.

Lately as of late, there's been many incidents within the space of 2 months - from the flooding of Queensland, Australia, the earthquake in Christchurch, NZ and now this. Hmm... coincidence?

Wow...I was just watching the footages and it's unreal how much damage it has caused. Thanks for that photo.

Just a coincidence...there was just an earlier earthquake in NZ, and as NZ and Japan are right on the borderline of the pacific techtonic plates, this was going to occur.

Oh I know, they're right on major fault lines and it's expected to occur. Japan gets daily "mini" earthquakes on a daily basis; however I find such timing of these large magnitude earthquakes very intriguing especially, in such short periods of time after months/years of relative low activities. I don't think it has anything to do with the end of the world (lol) and other sunspot stuff, I just find this interesting.

Have you seen the scenes of massive whirlpools created by this earthquake, sucking in yachts and boats yet? So amazing!

This is horrible news . I hope everyone one will be safe . Does OM1 know about this as he is on the coast ! Will the sunami hit the lower west coast ? I know Vancouver has a warning !

Trust Sky News to be so thorough! Based on their reports, experts claim the first Tsunami waves will hit Hawaii within 30 minutes. As the earthquake occurred 6 hours ago.

Let's hope it doesn't inflict too much damage onto Hawaii - http://hitsunami.info/

This sucks: Japan over 60 people now reported dead.

Watching the ocean recede from the Hawaiian coast called Diamond Head was pretty cool. Could be the precursor of a Tsunami inbound.

There has also been reports of a possible evac of Californian residents.

200-300 bodies have been found on the Sendai coast (Japan). :(

Just crazy!

So sad . The footage of the airport in Japan was just shocking with water going all the way to the Control Tower . Now with a chance of radiation spilage from the Power Plant's . This is such a tragedy .

now about 2 hours till the wave hits west coast. CNN has Crescent City, Cali maybe 8 foot wave to hit. Those poor people in Japan, this is utterly horrible.

There is no way a wave could come over that if it was generated in Japan! I used to have a bad dream about a tidal wave washing over this place when I first moved here. But I have seen some nasty storms and this tidal wave doesnt scare me....yet

Nothing is more exhilarating for me than standing on the 60th floor tower block (like in Hong Kong) looking out, while a category 8+ typhoon system passes through it. AMAZING!

Got out of bed at 2:30 a.m. here because I had the radio on low and heard them talking about it. They kept saying how bad the footage was and when I turned on my TV I was shocked. Never saw anything like it in my life!

I hope we send aid to help them out. They need it bad.

It won't be just the U.S that will be in the relief efforts. U.K has made a pledge to help Japan. Plus don't forget about the Tsunami efforts of 2004 during Bush's reign. He promised the most aid money but half of it never showed up. On my phone now, so can't check but I think U.K pledge the most that year-could be wrong.

Also, there are reports from Japan that death toll is expected to exceed 1000. :(

Japan has a cell phone company that had some early detection system in place in the ocean that would call their entire network warning them of an approaching tsunami. Very clever. My heart goes out to them.
